Job Summary
#CA-FT This individual will develop UC Davis expertise and informatics tools that will allow clinicians, researchers, and staff to improve the health outcomes of patients and advance toward a learning health system at UC Davis.
This Clinical Informatics Specialist position reports to the Data Curation Supervisor in the Data Center of Excellence, division of IT and is a key member of the CHT/CHPR Domain Specific Unit (DSU). The Clinical Informatics Specialist takes part in all aspects of the design, development, and implementation of analytical products for this DSU, as dened and prioritized by the CHT and CHPR leadership. This includes requirements gathering, data retrieval from a variety of data sources, validation and curation, database administration, and translation of data. The incumbent may also take part in strategic initiatives and business development by evaluating and enhancing our suite of BI/analytics tools and advising on an integrated data warehousing strategy. - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and/or training in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the analysis, retrieval and management of clinical data from a healthcare software system.
- Demonstrated experience translating customer requirements into technical specications and documentation.
- Ability in OMOP Common Data Model to organize and analyze observational healthcare data.
- The candidate should be able to effectively standardize clinical information, ensure data quality, and help clinical staff and researchers with improving practice and research.
- Ability in Structured Query Language (SQL); experience with query tuning and optimization.
- Ability in Python development, experience with writing and testing code, debugging programs, and integrating applications.
- Ability in using Git for source code management, including creating and managing repositories, setting up branches, merging features, and performing code reviews.
- Working knowledge of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process and technologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data modeling/architecture principles.
- Ability to use logic and ow diagrams to describe the functional processes of a system that both end-users and developers can understand.
- Excellent people skills, with the ability communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic Clarity/Clinical Data Model accredited or certification
- Master's degree or equivalent experience/training in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Prior experience with data extract from Caboodle and/or Clarity.
- Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g. Tableau, Dash, Plotly); ability to translate data into actionable information via graphical representations as needed.
- Working knowledge of workflow management platforms (e.g., KNIME, Jenkins) for data engineering pipelines.
- Familiarity in at least one popular Python framework (e.g., Django, Flask).
- Familiarity in Docker or container technologies; allowing for isolation of project environments.
- Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX processes, including SSH and Command Line/Shell scripting.
- Moderate level experience in healthcare quality improvement or research projects.

Department Overview The UC Davis Health Data Provisioning Core (DPC), within Information Technology, exists to support the majority of health data analysis and analytic needs at UCDH though the provisioning of well-characterized health and health data and derived information to data requesters. The mission of the DPC is 1) to develop best practices in clinical informatics to guide the acquisition, transmission, aggregation, semantic curation, characterization, protection, and delivery of health data, and 2) to enable the learning healthcare system through generation of reusable enterprise data assets and collaborative partnerships between users of data and UCDH Information Technology. The DPC in collaboration with the Centers for Healthcare Policy and Research (CHPR) and the Center of Health and Technology (CHT) is supporting the missions of CHPR and CHT. POSITION INFORMATION
