Lead Software Controls Engineer

Job Description Summary

Join the rapidly growing team of motivated software controls engineers developing vehicle and device level controls for Electrification & Conventional driveline systems. Projects are highly complex and original, requiring strategic direction, cross-disciplinary integration, and ingenuity of approach.

Job Description

  • Responsible for developing and testing control algorithms and diagnostics to meet customer requirements.
  • Develop algorithms to control devices such as motors and actuators in a model-based and C-code environment.
  • Use Simulation Tools, such as CARSim/Simscape to develop and verify control algorithms
  • Serve as Technical Lead for Control Systems for a given program, including review and approving designs & calibrations.
  • Work closely with electronics and software departments to ensure design of electronics and low- level software can meet control algorithm requirements.
  • Define and maintain control system design requirements and best practices.
  • Follow ASPICE and Functional Safety development process/requirements
  • Responsible for MIL and SIL testing for controls algorithms
  • Support architecture design and development.
  • Support creating in-vehicle test maneuvers used for development activities and performance evaluation.
  • Analyze vehicle and bench data and modify calibration parameters to achieve performance targets.
  • Support dyno testing in debugging control software when required
  • Ability to travel to global test sites, as required, for testing and validation of controls.
  • Mentor and guide controls and Sr Controls Software Engineers to ensure AAM's design practices and standards are met.
  • Other duties assigned within Controls team

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of SW Controls development in Driveline product development or similar
  • 3 years of Driveline product development
  • 1+ year of working knowledge of ASPICE, Functional safety and its application in the automotive domain
  • 1+ experience working with or tuning plant models using Simscape/Carsim/AMEsim
  • 1+ experience in using IMB, Mathworks & Vector tools

Preferred Skills and Education:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with cross-functional teams
