JOB TITLE: Industrial Engineering Intern

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Engineering Team

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting engineering team with the design and development of new products that can be marketed and sold to the aerospace and defense industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Engineering Intern is responsible for completing assigned duties. Duties include but are not limited to:



  • Assist in bringing new drilling machines online, including setting up tools and configuring machine settings to ensure optimal performance.
  • Update process sheets and work instructions, providing clear guidance for manufacturing personnel.
  • Develop and design 3D printed fixtures for Marktime applications.
  • Modify and update standards and master data within the system, including Processing Change Requests (PCR) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR), to reflect current manufacturing requirements.
  • Work alongside engineering to create detailed drafts and technical drawings to support the design and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply principles of design for manufacturability to assess and improve product designs, ensuring they are optimized for efficient production.
  • Use Autodesk software to design parts compatible with machines, ensuring designs meet functional and manufacturability criteria.
  • Design and develop fixture and work holding solutions to secure and support workpieces during manufacturing operations.
  • Learn and apply the use of various test equipment to validate product quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze and contribute to the optimization of assembly workflows, implementing lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Prepare and provide Mastercam files to the shop floor, ensuring accurate translation of designs into manufacturing operations.
  • Engage with suppliers to understand materials and secondary processing capabilities, potentially visiting supplier facilities to assess processes and capabilities.
  • Provide feedback to engineering regarding gauge tolerancing, contributing to the refinement of design specifications and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive presentation during the final week of the internship, summarizing projects undertaken, outcomes achieved, and personal learning experiences.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:



  • Must be working towards an Undergraduate Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Prefer experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prefer experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
  • Must have effective communication skills
  • Must be organized and have excellent problem-solving abilities

  • Other tasks as assigned by management.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

This position does not require personal protective equipment unless on the shop floor where Safety Glasses are required by all.
