The expected hiring range for this position is:

$29.75-$38.46.

About the Role:
Fermilab seeks an experienced Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Lead. This person schedules, leads, and inspects repair and maintenance activities for all Laboratory vehicles and equipment. This role ensures safe and efficient operation while maintaining compliance with federal and state environmental and safety requirements.

What your day-to-day as a Lead Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic at Fermilab will look like:
* Schedule and lead daily repairs and preventive maintenance activities for Laboratory vehicles and equipment.
* Develop and implement maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
* Inspect completed repair work to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
* Maintain an adequate stock of frequently used mechanical and electrical vehicle parts.
* Manage service, repair, and ordering documentation, submitting necessary reports as required.
* Perform routine and preventive maintenance on various vehicle and trailer systems, including engine, ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, heating/cooling, transmission, brake, and lubrication.
* Diagnose and repair reported system issues, dismantling and rebuilding components as necessary.
* Provide in-field repair services as needed.
* Assist and mentor less experienced mechanics in diagnosing and resolving complex problems.
* Recommend repair work to be outsourced and review completed external repairs before returning vehicles to service.
* Lead assigned projects and work groups as required.
* Perform occasional snow removal tasks using approved equipment after obtaining necessary medical clearance and training.
* Adhere to and uphold all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
* Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills and Attributes for Success:
* Two years of automotive technical school with 5+ years of hands-on experience or a High School diploma with 10+ years of experience.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B without air brake restrictions, as required for the assignment.
* Expertise in methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used in brake service and inspection tasks.
* Ability to perform brake service or inspections through experience, training, or certifications as follows:
o Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or training program approved by a State, Canadian Province, federal agency, or labor union.
o Holding a state or provincial certification qualifying for brake service and inspection (including passing CDL air brake tests where applicable).
o A minimum of one year of brake-related training and experience.

* Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
