Job Summary:

This position will have substantial responsibility for achieving the mission of the Hawk Center for Investment Analysis and the Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP). Responsibilities will include a combination of teaching, mentoring, recruitment, placement, reporting, and fundraising. The duties and the structure of the center staffing will depend on the specific skills of the candidate. The percentages below reflect the responsibilities of the Director of Equity Investments who works in conjunction with the Director of Fixed Income Investments. Under some circumstances the candidate may teach some graduate and/or undergraduate Finance classes that are not specifically courses that involve student-managed funds. The duties and allocations listed may evolve to serve the strategic needs of the School and the Hawk Center.

Principal duties:

Instructional Activity 50%
- Work with the Academic Director and faculty/staff to design learning experiences with complementary academic and industry perspectives on the field of investment analysis and management for students
- The primary teaching responsibilities include FIN 675 (5 credits) Applied Security Analysis I and FIN 676 (4 credits) Applied Security Analysis II, which is the two-semester course sequence where students manage live portfolios.
- In addition to coaching the students on developing and refining investment processes, security analysis, and portfolio management, the Director designs lectures and arranges outside speakers to enrich and complement the experience.
- Students are evaluated based on one-on-one interactions with the Director and on their group presentations to a panel of faculty and practitioners who serve the role as trustee for the assets under management.
- The students make extensive use of FactSet and Bloomberg, and other decision support systems as needed. The candidate should be familiar with these (or similar) tools and willing to introduce new systems as innovation dictates.
- In partnership with the Academic Director, benchmark the ASAP curricula and learning objectives against industry practice and other relevant programs, and supporting other courses in the program as necessary
- Participate in the design and support of other courses that are part of the mission of the Hawk Center.
- Lead site visits focused on industry-specific learning, program visibility and networking
- Explore new academic and industry approaches to investment analysis and management
- Help design and support FIN 645/646/535. These are recommended or prerequisites for students aiming to manage portfolios. All have a significant equity analysis component.

Student Services 30%
- Serve as a key contact person for all ASAP students including mentorship, academic and career advising
- Partner with full-time MBA Program Office on MBA admissions to ASAP
- Recruit outstanding students
- Lead evaluation of applicants and make admission decisions
- Review candidates and interview selected candidates for admission
- Mentor students with focus on substantive preparation for professional roles in investment analysis and management
- Determine financial awards and scholarships
- Design and lead student orientation
- Place ASAP students in internships and full-time positions

Administrative Responsibilities 20%
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Center with the Assistant Director
- Work with School units/departments to ensure alignment to execute strategic priorities
- Manage Hawk Center fundraising activities and support School of Business fundraising discussions with center alumni.
- Work with Academic Director to direct and plan activities for research, curriculum, and knowledge sharing
- Partner with others in the school including: Finance Department, Center Academic Policy Committee, Full-time MBA Program Office, Associate Dean for Academic Affair and Administration, and other programs and executive education
- Participate in regular program, department, and school meetings and other initiatives to align and coordinate activity
- Work in collaboration with staff directors of other Centers
- Occasional coordination of activities with other Centers on initiatives and projects
- Develop Center Annual Report
- Lead Center annual budgeting process and monitor accounts
- Provide financial oversight
- Supervise project assistants as required
- Manage space, equipment, and technology in the center
- Gather and synthesize information to develop reports/communication for program and university
- In coordination with central services, provide oversight for the design of marketing and communications materials
- Serve as a key external liaison for the Center with alumni and industry
- Develop and nurture Advisory Board relationships
- Plan a biannual conference/reunion
- Coordinate with alumni and corporate relations on external and advancement engagements
- Seek and maintain industry-academic partnerships relationships that enhance student placement, curriculum, research opportunities
- Maintain a visible presence in industry associations, conferences and other meetings


Responsibilities:
Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

  • 20% Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline
  • 10% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs
  • 50% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 5% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • 10% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties

Master's Degree
Preferred emphasis in finance and coursework in security analysis and portfolio management


Qualifications:

Preferred:
- Minimum 6 years of finance experience, with substantial emphasis in security selection and portfolio management.
- Individual will have excellent oral and written communication skills, display a high level of professionalism and have experience training and mentoring junior staff and/or teaching college students.
- Candidate should have excellent organizational, administrative, presentation, and time management skills.
- Ideal candidates will have professional experience in investment research and have participated in and was an instructor of a student managed investment fund.
- Experience using and willingness to learn new financial tools and databases required.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
