The Project Leader 1 is responsible for supporting the overall strategy, execution of deliverables, project completion & profitable outcomes for a significantly complex project &/or multiple projects simultaneously. This position will require proficient understanding and knowledge of prime contracting including Critical Power, Power Distribution, UPS & Modular Construction Delivery.

The Project Leader 1 is expected to provide overall development, training & leadership to Junior Project Leadership, Field-Superintendents & Trades personnel as it relates to the strategic

planning, overall implementation & ownership of project completion.

The candidate being considered must have hands-on experience in leading project teams, specialty contracting, coordination & overall project execution. This candidate will be required to hold knowledge of complex turnkey construction with industries related to Government & Federal Buildings, Mission Critical Facilities, Industrial Manufacturing, along with diverse Military & Air Force Bases with projects located on a national and global scale.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring to provide leadership, direction & mentorship to all project-team members to ensure effective collaboration and positive work environments.
  • Provides experience and personal exposure to one or more of the following key-solution services including Prime Turnkey Design-Build/Design-Assist and Preconstruction capabilities
  • Leads a project team in the preparation of project documentation to include project and manpower requirements, project layouts and scheduling of resources, detailed equipment plans and supporting the field-employees as required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of contract language, with experience in negotiation.
  • Clear understanding of at-risk and mitigation strategies related to construction management.
  • Experienced in the Commissioning and Testing of diverse specialty systems.
  • Primarily responsible for coordinating, planning and leading the project kick-off meetings for project teams involved.
  • Ability to develop a Work Breakdown Structure for the assigned project with properly named work packages and resources assigned to the appropriate tasks to establish a baseline resource plan.
  • Executes & provides site surveys, cost studies and projected costs, budget forecasting and any additional financial and cost requirements of the contractor-perform work.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures, quality improvements and execution of best practices.
  • Ability to measure the project-scope and performance against the project plan to ensure the project is within appropriate cost variances, budget-expectations and schedule timeframes.
  • Partners directly with the Customer to create and manage the project-schedule if requested.
  • Timely completion and accuracy of project punch-list items, as-built drawing submittals and ensuring employee accessibility to the appropriate training materials.
  • Maintains a positive, respectful and productive partnership with all leadership & support-team members including Senior Engineering Leads, Superintendents and Foreman, Junior Project Leadership and Project Controls personnel to achieve project-milestones.
  • Leads the acquisition of permits & licenses required, along with ensuring that all inspections are appropriately completed within the discussed timeframe.

Requirements:

  • Supervise Construction Project Managers and perform PM duties on construction projects.
  • Maintain operational and administrative control for construction projects Extensive Project Management experience managing teams and monitoring multiple projects at any given time.
  • Experienced in up-front project involvement with engineering firms, the client, and General Contractors.
  • Proven track record of successful projects. Has Managed diverse groups on projects that involve multi-discipline knowledge for example; Fire Alarm, Communications, Security, AV, Power, and Instrumentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can direct cross function teams to reach mutual agreement to meet business objectives.
  • Able to work in a diverse environment, with personnel having a range of backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical thinking to evaluate options and directions.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Can facilitate change and communicate effectively.
  • Able to think abstractly, in both short and long term planning.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in construction specific to Electrical Systems, Power Distribution &/or Critical Power industries with a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or an Engineering discipline with a strong preference to Electrical or Mechanical.
  • 5+ years of related construction experience with a Master's Degree with a preference in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Required knowledge within construction management functions including self-perform contracting, field coordination efforts, maintenance of schedule & prioritization of deliverable deadlines tied to each specialty-trade simultaneously.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience & established knowledge in complex markets on projects specific to Federal, Government, Commercial & Mission Critical sectors.
  • Extensive experience leading diverse teams & projects with construction budgets valued between $2M - $30M+ in total contract value.
  • Ability to properly utilize software including Bluebeam, Accubid, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Microsoft Office & Excel.
