JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The laboratory of Dr. Bordenstein in theDepartments of Biology and Entomology and the One Health Microbiome Centerseeks anAssistant Research Professorto work as part of a research team focused on insect-microbe-virus interactions.The position willfocus on the use ofDrosophilatransgenic expression, genetic editing techniques such as RNAi or knockout mutants, fitness assays, reproductive tissue dissections, fluorescent and electron microscopy, microinjections, frequent and large experimental setups with flies, microbiology, phage biology, and team management to understand the genetics and mechanisms of how endosymbiotic bacteria (Wolbachia)modify reproduction inDrosophila melanogaster.The successful applicant must have the ability to plan, execute, interpret, document, and troubleshoot multi-faceted independent research, and to collaborate effectively with members of a research team and the campus-wide One Health Microbiome Center.The successful candidate will excel in molecular biology, mentor junior members of the lab and campus community, lead major writing and organizational efforts of manuscripts and grants to grow and fund their research, and communicate their science to peers and the public through presentations, writing, and digital formats. Excellent organizational, presentation, scheduling, and verbal communication skills are required. Professional development through the acquisition of new skills will be expected. A successful candidate should possess at least a Ph.D or equivalent in an academic field related to the research including molecular biology, host-microbe interactions, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, insect husbandry, and/or phage biology.
