Rockland Trust Company's fast growing Investment Management Group with approximately $7B in AUA has an exciting opportunity for the right motivated individual in our group. The position as a junior portfolio manager will be located on the north shore area and eventually assist in coverage throughout Massachusetts and lower New Hampshire. The position will work directly with a senior portfolio manager /senior vice president. As part of the integration process the position will implement trading on over $1.6 billion in assets to gain familiarity with the business.

The junior portfolio manager makes investment decisions on portfolios for municipal institutions and private client portfolios. It is required that the candidate communicate and actively participate in the investment philosophy and processes, including large cap core equity stock selection, domestic fixed income security selection, asset allocation and diversifying manager analysis. This candidate should have experience meeting with clients and proactively maintaining contact to build positive account relationships.

It is expected that this position will move from junior PM and implementation / analysis to the role of portfolio manager. At this point, the portfolio manager will meet with clients on a regular basis. The role will obtain a book of business and be responsible for all aspects of maintaining the investment relationship with clients, mainly face to face meetings and give detailed updates in investment review meetings. The position is part of the municipal client investment team and collaborates closely on a regular basis with the overall investment team.

Responsibilities:



  • The main role of the position to begin will be trade implementation for client investment portfolios both municipal and private client. Work with a senior portfolio manager to initiate trades across a $1.6 billion book of business.
  • Build new portfolios to client objectives, invest additional cash into portfolios, raise funds as need and regularly rebalance portfolios to target asset allocations across asset classes.
  • Work within an array of systems to invest client assets within various investment models consisting of individual equities, bonds and funds.
  • Responsible for checking proper allocations, strategies, guidelines and unique portfolio restrictions.
  • Monitor daily cash positions for client portfolios with overdrafts and un-invested cash balances and communicate with senior PM for appropriate actions.
  • Assist in the preparation of reporting for client and prospect meetings, actuaries and audits.
  • A member of the fixed income team and will assist on execution and routing of trades through electronic trading platforms as well as creating portfolio analytics.
  • Work closely with Investment Team to provide in-depth investment analysis for prospective client portfolios.
  • Produce ad-hoc analysis and reports regarding industry trends, composite investment performance comparisons, and portfolios statistics.
  • Role will transition from implementation and analysis to portfolio management and in-person client investment review meetings.



Qualifications:



  • A candidate must possess strong investment and communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • 5+ years related experience
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis on finance/economics; advanced degree, MBA/CFA/CFP preferred
  • Progress toward or eagerness to complete the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program
  • Analytical, organizational, teaming and presentation skills
  • Broad knowledge of finance, accounting, and economics
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies with minimal supervision
  • Perform well a team environment
  • System knowledge of Moxy and SEI Strategy Manager desirable
  • Investment work-related systems (e.g. Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar, TradeWeb, MarketAxess) a plus
