Mandatory Personnel
This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
This position is the Building Environmental Services Crew Leader, responsible for overseeing personnel and procedures of all early morning, Tuesday - Saturday activities of the Building Services unit, and as building and programmatic needs dictate. Responsible for crew leadership in the absence of the Building Services Supervisor. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, two years of experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Essential Job Duties |
The Building Environmental Services Crew Leader performs under the direction of the Building Environmental Services (
BES)
CHHS Zone Supervisor.
- Maintain equipment inventory and repair records.
- Compile maintenance checklist and report needs to BES Zone Supervisor.
- Complete individual duties and responsibilities as assigned; check the work of other crew members and correct deficiencies.
- Test and suggest recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.

Other Work Responsibilities |
- Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
- Adhere to encourage crew members to follow established Facilities Management Department, UNC Charlotte University and State policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Two years' experience operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium-to-high physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience needed for position.- Experience and ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
- Operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and must, therefore, must possess and maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Computer experience with knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs needed for position.
- Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication are needed for position.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with coworkers, visitors, between day and night shift employees in Building Environmental Services and other departments both within Facilities Management and throughout the entire campus community.
