The General, a subsidiary of Sentry Insurance, is looking for an Arbitration Adjuster to join our team! This role investigates and maintains auto claims. The Arbitration Adjuster is responsible for filing and responding to intercompany arbitration on simple to complex files to maximize subrogation recoveries on disputed claims for all policy lines. Evaluates and resolves subrogation issues and acts as a technical resource.

What You'll Do

As an Arbitration Adjuster, you will:

Filing and Responding to Arbitration Cases

  • Understand how to write and respond with quality contentions to obtain a favorable result for subrogation claims on behalf of the Company/insured based on file analysis for simple to complex files.
  • Prepare cases for arbitration.
  • Obtain additional investigative and damage support evidence and can apply information received to maximize recovery opportunities.
  • Files and responds to intercompany arbitration on simple to complex vehicle damage, property, medical reimbursement claims, contribution claims, and concurrent coverage disputes.
  • Understand fundamental aspects of claim investigation and elements of damage for presenting a prima facie tort liability case for recovery on files assigned within their authority.

Hear Arbitration Cases

  • Obtain certification as an arbitration panelist through Arbitration Forums
  • Hear and decide the outcome of arbitration filings from other companies as an arbitration panelist following management directives.

Analyze Factual Evidence and Subrogation Potential

  • Assess new files to determine completeness of investigation and factual evidence (e.g. scene investigations, police reports, statements).
  • Analyze factual information to determine appropriate liability percentage to maximize subrogation recoveries. Handle claims involving multiple insureds/carriers, product liability, and fire losses.
  • Identify, obtain, and discuss strength of factual evidence from manager or experts.
  • Exhibits basic knowledge of unfair claim practice acts, corporate claim standards, company claim bulletins and the company code of ethics. Handle claims in good faith.
  • Understand and apply applicable case law and statutes, considering geographic location and local ordinances.

Secure Factual Evidence

  • Understand and be able to access multiple internal systems and software to gather necessary documentation to prove our claim.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of when to secure additional investigative and damage support evidence to maximize subrogation recovery.

Acquire and Applying Claim Knowledge

  • Develop an ability to apply legal and medical terminology, regulations and procedures to resolve claim issues.
  • Acquire the ability to answer and direct questions on claims and procedures.
  • Develop the ability to compose quality written correspondence.
  • Review estimates of damage. Apply current recommended vehicle repair and replacement procedures.
  • Adhere to Corporate Claim Standards, Company Bulletins, and Company Code of Ethics.

What it Takes

  • Three or more years of auto liability adjusting experience required.
  • Experience with Claims Center/Guidewire and/or E-Subro Hub preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
  • Demonstrated experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across our operating territories, or other equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience handling moderately complex claims, or other equivalent experience.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements related to casualty coverages, or other equivalent knowledge.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process, or other equivalent knowledge.
  • Obtain state specific property casualty adjusters claims licensing as required. Current active adjuster's license is preferred.
  • Work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Travel Requirements up to 10%.
