About The Job Dudek is seeking mid- to senior-level professionals to provide as-needed biological surveys. The successful candidate will assist our team in conducting a variety of field surveys, including field assessments and impact evaluations for botanical, wildlife, and aquatic resources. Overnight and out-of-region travel may be necessary. This role is a variable hour role. Learn more about the projects you will have the opportunity to shape. Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below): * Collect detailed field data, work in remote field locations, hike steep slopes over uneven terrain, and work full days in all types of weather; * Identify California flora to species and subspecies or variety; * Conduct/lead field surveys for rare, threatened, and endangered plants and wildlife; * Conduct/lead vegetation surveys, invasive plant surveys, and habitat assessments; * Conduct/lead wildlife-focused survey efforts; * Conduct aquatic resource delineations; * Organize and schedule field surveys in coordination with core Dudek staff; * Follow all Dudek and construction site safety protocols. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree in environmental science, or other related field; AND a minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated field experience in biological resource management and surveying and/or construction compliance monitoring.
* As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre-employment drug test and background check.
* Must have the ability to be insured to drive a vehicle and/or current auto-insurance. * Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment. Preferred Qualifications * Proficient in wildlife identification and impact evaluation throughout California;
* Proficient in surveying for special-status species (plants or wildlife) of California; * Proficient with California plant identification using dichotomous keys, such as the Jepson Manual; * Proficient in conducting vegetation mapping and long-term monitoring for vegetation communities and/or special-status plants; * Experience with field collection applications, such as ESRI Field Maps, Survey123, etc.; * Familiarity with California wetland types and systems; * Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and "think-on-your-feet". * Self-motivated with an interest to learn and grow as a project team. * Understanding of environmental regulations. * Agency-qualified biologist to survey and monitor for special-status wildlife and plant species, including for nesting birds. * Holds special-status species permit and/or certification(s). Physical Requirements Working Conditions:
Proposed Salary Range: $45-$75 hourly* *Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
