Position Summary

As the Billing & Sales Tax Supervisor, you will oversee customer billing operations and indirect tax compliance across multiple legal entities and IT/ERP systems within our Architectural Framing Systems segment. This role will lead a team of four staff members across different business locations, ensuring efficient invoicing, accurate tax filings and process standardization.

Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, problem-solving skills, and expertise in sales and use tax regulations. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, can independently prioritize workload and multiple priorities, and communicates effectively across departments. You should be proactive in setting expectations and monitoring success of your team's deliverables, identifying and resolving issues, streamlining processes, and providing hands-on support when needed.

This role will ideally be based at one of our locations in Bloomington MN, Wausau WI, or Monett MO.

Responsibilities

Sales & Use Tax and Customer Invoicing

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the billing team to ensure accurate and timely processing of customer invoices and credit memos across all AFS-US brands and systems.
  • Collaborate with collections, accounting, quality, and sales teams to ensure invoices and credit memos align with company policies and customer agreements.
  • Oversee and review the sales tax filing process, ensuring compliance with all state and local requirements for AFS-US brands. Manage sales tax audits in various states, and act as the liaison with corporate tax team.
  • Design, implement, and standardize sales tax exemption processes across AFS-US brands and IT systems.
  • Provide hands-on support for billing and tax-related tasks as needed, including training, process improvements, and backup coverage

Accounting

  • Oversee sales tax-related accounting activities, including liabilities, refund credits, cash postings, and reconciliations.
  • Review month-end record-to-report activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting related to sales tax and billing.
  • Partner with the corporate finance and accounting teams to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions and compliance with GAAP.

Subject Matter Expertise, Special Projects, and Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for customer invoicing and sales and use tax compliance, providing guidance to internal teams.
  • Lead and support process improvement projects focused on automation, efficiency, and standardization of billing and tax operations.
  • Stay current with changing tax laws and regulations, evaluating their impact on the company and implementing necessary compliance measures.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in accounting, tax, finance
  • Experience with customer billing processes and sales tax compliance, ideally in a multi-state, multi-entity, and/or multi-IT/ERP environment organization.
  • Prior experience in team leadership and staff development (preferred).
  • Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and experience working with multiple IT/ERP systems.

Salary Range: $85,000/yr.-$100,000/yr.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel anticipated approximately ~5%
