Labor Relations Manager Overview:

Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Labor Relations Manager to be responsible for the administration, and interpretation of Sun Country's Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) with its five (5) unions, which include ALPA (pilots), IBT (flight attendants), AMFA (technicians), TWU (dispatchers) and IBT (Below the Wing Fleet Service employees). The Manager is an advisor to senior leadership on topics related to grievance management and alternative dispute resolution, negotiation strategies and opportunities, and interpretation and implementation matters. The Manager also develops and maintains a strong working relationship with union representatives, focused on working collaboratively to achieve our shared interests. The manager will assist in the negotiation of agreements with represented work groups.

Essential roles and responsibilities of a Labor Relations Manager:

  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship between union representation and management by using a collaborative and interest-based approach
  • Develop and maintain positive and functional relationships with labor organizations representing the various work groups
  • Provide advice and guidance to senior leadership on topics related to the administration, negotiation, and interpretation of Sun Country's CBAs, including grievance management and alternative dispute resolution, negotiation strategies and opportunities, and interpretation and implementation matters
  • Provide prompt and effective support on labor-related issues to management within multiple corporate departments
  • Work collaboratively with union representation to resolve disputes and grievances, negotiate settlements, and if necessary, arbitrate difficult cases under the RLA
  • Participate in negotiations on behalf of management for new work rules and other matters for organized employee groups
  • Travel as needed to build and maintain relationships with the operational teams and unions, as well as to investigate and adjudicate grievances
  • Manage tracking and reporting of grievances and work with operational areas to support compliance.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Labor Relations procedures, labor laws, legislative change, dispute resolution, and other pertinent union issues


Supervisory Responsibility:

Liaise among multiple outside counsel and consultants and the CHRO or other senior leaders to provide accurate and appropriate advice; maintain, develop, and manage these multiple outside vendor relationships to deliver optimal value for Sun Country

Supervise other department personnel as required.

The required qualifications we are looking for in a Labor Relations Manager include:



  • At least 3-6 years experience in Labor Relations, or operational management of unionized employees, preferably under the U.S. Railway Labor Act
  • Advanced knowledge and working understanding of U.S. Railway Labor Act and applicable U.S. employment Laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, etc.).
  • Experience with contract negotiations
  • Experience with the grievance/arbitration process in the U.S. Airline or railway industry
  • Adept at conflict resolution with negotiation skills
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills, with demonstrated ability to listen and influence
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or related field or equivalent experience/training as determined by the hiring manager


Preferred Skills



  • At least 5 years experience in Labor Relations or operational management of unionized employees in an airline
  • Experience or formal training in early dispute resolution strategy
