Wages and Benefits

$27.00 per hour; This position is not eligible for benefits except for accrual of Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave and participation in agency sponsored retirement savings plan, which includes a 25% match on your first 4% and immediate vesting.

Schedule

This is a temporary, full-time position with a preferred start date of March 10, 2025. The PCYC Summer Freedom School program is 6 weeks long, running from June 30 - August 8, 2025, Mondays - Fridays from 8:15am - 3:45pm. Mandatory paid virtual training runs from March 20 - March 23. There are also mandatory paid trainings taking place locally on May 24, as well as national training from June 2-8, and additional local training June 16-20. Travel to Knoxville, Tennessee will be required for the national training.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as PCYC's Servant Leader Intern provides an opportunity to work, lead, and teach scholars with the curriculum provided by CDF Freedom Schools. The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost scholar motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of scholars and families to the resources of their communities. This program serves scholars in grades 1st - 5th. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Serving as a positive role model for all scholars.
  • Supervising and maintaining the safety of scholars.
  • Setting up, managing, and breaking down classroom spaces according to standards outlined by CDF and the sponsor organization.
  • Engaging a maximum of 10 scholars per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum.
  • Creating, submitting, and implementing lesson plans.
  • Creating and implementing afternoon enrichment activities.
  • Working with site staff to ensure that all program components are implemented with fidelity.
  • Reporting any issues or concerns regarding program operations to the Site Coordinator.
  • Attend all required Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute training sessions.
  • Attend all local and site-based trainings as required by the Site Coordinator and Project Director.
  • Support afternoon enrichment partners.
  • Attend food service training.


Who You Are



  • You have completed at least one year of college or have had at least two years of experience in a similar position.
  • Previous experience working with youth and families in an urban setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a nonprofit community-based organization is preferred.
  • Experience or education in the social work or counseling fields is helpful.
  • You demonstrate a high level of competence in computer applications, and the ability to use these resources effectively in accomplishing work. For example, the ability to create and use charts, tables, and functions in Excel is a minimum expectation.
  • You are highly detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • You have the ability to develop relationships with youth and families that foster academic success.
  • You have the ability to motivate others and work as part of an intergenerational team.
  • You demonstrate an understanding of the role systemic racism has played in education and are committed to taking an anti-racist approach in all work functions.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
