DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Custodial Worker 1, you will be responsible for the custodial care and services at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. Your duties will include performing deep cleaning procedures of resident rooms, common areas, nurse stations, and other areas of the facility. Cleaning will include mopping, scrubbing, waxing, polishing, dusting, and sweeping various items such as walls, floors, elevators, light fixtures, and wheelchairs. Your work will involve the use of custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. You can expect to empty waste containers, dispose of recyclable materials, and dispose of infectious waste into proper storage areas. Additionally, you will maintain a safe working environment and report all problems and unsafe conditions to a supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, 37.5 hours biweekly
  • Work hours are 2nd shift, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with rotating days and weekends, and a 30-minute lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, buffing, etc.)
  • Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
  • Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience have using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience have using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in the following environments: activity/recreation room, bathroom/shower or bathing room, cafeteria/dining room setting, entranceway/lobby/common space, nursing station, patient or resident rooms, pharmacy, and physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
