COLLEGE COACH Summer Internship: Endocrinology Bone Health Intern

The opportunity

The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week.

The intern will work within the Division of Endocrinology at Boston Children's Hospital, specifically in the Bone Health Program and DXA Center for Pediatric Bone Density. This department focuses on pediatric metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis, and bone health in children with chronic conditions, including neuromuscular disorders like Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

What you'll do

The intern will support research in the Bone Health Program and DXA Center at Boston Children's Hospital, focusing on pediatric osteoporosis and neuromuscular disorders.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Extract and manage patient data (fractures, DXA results, treatments).

  • Assist with data analysis and literature reviews.

  • Support manuscript preparation and presentations.

  • Coordinate research meetings and documentation.

Expectations:

  • Maintain accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

  • Communicate effectively with clinicians and researchers.

  • Demonstrate initiative and professionalism in research tasks.

  • This position is fully onsite

What you'll get

  • By the end of the internship, the intern will have gained hands-on experience in clinical research within the Bone Health Program and DXA Center at Boston Children's Hospital.

  • You will develop technical skills in data extraction, management, and analysis, particularly related to DXA imaging, fracture risk, and bisphosphonate treatment in pediatric patients.

  • You will also enhance their ability to conduct literature reviews, contribute to manuscripts, and present findings.

  • Interpersonally, the intern will gain experience collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Who you are

  • You are an undergraduate college student interested working in healthcare

  • Basic computer skills - Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs/Sheets.

  • Attention to detail - Ability to carefully record and organize information.

  • Willingness to learn research basics - No prior experience required, but an interest in science and healthcare is important.

Recruitment process

  • Internship opportunities: We aim to have all summer internship opportunities posted by February 28. They will be posted on a rolling basis as managers determine their availability to host an intern.

  • Resume review & interviews: Applications will be screened, forwarded to managers as appropriate, and interviews will be scheduled.

  • Offer decision: We will follow up within one week of your interview.

  • Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program.
