Job Summary:

TraceGains is seeking an experienced Data Scientist/Senior Data Scientist to lead the development and application of AI- and statistical-driven methodologies that drive rapid innovation in formulation and quality solutions for CPG companies. This role is critical in shaping TraceGains' next-generation AI platform for the CPG industry.

As a key team member, you will develop predictive and prescriptive models, collaborate with AI/ML engineers and knowledge engineering teams, and scale AI-powered decision-making systems. The ideal candidate has expertise in AI-driven formulation optimization, machine learning, risk prediction, and constraint optimization techniques or the ability to adapt methodologies to these areas. Experience in deploying AI models to cloud-based environments is essential.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:



  • AI-Driven Formulation Innovation: Develop and refine AI/ML models for ingredient formulation, optimizing for variables like cost, sustainability, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Simulation & Optimization: Develop and refine large-scale simulation models to optimize ingredient formulations and supply chain decisions. Apply constraint optimization techniques to balance cost, sustainability, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Multi-Dimensional Risk Analysis: Build predictive models for risk assessment, leveraging structured and unstructured data to provide actionable insights on ingredient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • AI & Machine Learning Development: Apply advanced ML algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning) to enhance risk prediction, AI-driven formulation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with AI/ML engineers, knowledge engineering teams, and product managers to align AI initiatives with business needs and ensure seamless model integration into production.
  • Data Engineering & Feature Development: Collaborate with knowledge and data engineers to build scalable knowledge architectures and data pipelines for high-performance AI applications.
  • Visualization & Stakeholder Communication: Develop data visualizations and reports to translate complex AI findings into actionable business insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends in formulation and simulation methodologies, AI-driven risk assessment, and constraint optimization, and drive innovation within TraceGains' AI strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Job Requirements:



  • Education & Experience:

    • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field preferred.

      • And/or


    • 7+ years of experience in data science, AI/ML, or simulation modeling in an enterprise setting.


  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and cloud-based ML tools
    • Expertise in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and constraint optimization algorithms.
    • Experience with graph-based models, network analysis, and AI-driven knowledge graphs.
    • Strong knowledge of A/B testing, causal inference, and experimental design methodologies.
    • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib.


  • Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with AI engineers, Knowledge engineers, data engineers, and product teams
    • Experience leading AI/ML projects from research to production deployment.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate AI concepts into business value.
    • Ability to be a positive team player, willing to grow and change


  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience with generative AI for data augmentation and feature/metadata extraction, preferred but not required.
    • Experience integrating AI/ML models into SaaS platforms or enterprise decision-making tools, preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge of supply chain modeling, ingredient formulation AI, or food safety risk prediction, preferred but not required.
    • Familiarity with graph neural networks, embeddings, and knowledge representation in AI.
    • Experience in big data processing (Spark, Databricks, Snowflake).


  • Occasional travel required for department meetings, all company events, in-person seminars/networking events, etc.
  • Successful completion of a background screening process including, but not limited to, employment verifications, criminal search, OFAC, SS Verification, as well as credit screening, where applicable and in accordance with federal and local regulations
