Role and Responsibilities:


Join our team as a commercial landscaping Light Equipment Mechanic, where you'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing a variety of small and light landscaping equipment to keep operations running smoothly.



  • Work on a team that primarily consist of adult with disabilities.

  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance; such as tune-ups, lubricating components, changing oil and filters, adjusting or replacing belts and hoses, and sharpening or replacing blades on grounds equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair a variety of grounds equipment and vehicle issues, including electrical systems, brakes, carburetors, engine compression, clutches, transmissions, injectors, differentials, pumps, hydraulics, and power take-off operations.

  • Handle minor repairs in-house to reduce reliance on contract maintenance services, and arrange for major repairs with external shops as needed.

  • Develop, recommend, and implement preventive maintenance programs and schedules.

  • Instruct grounds staff on proper operation and maintenance of equipment, inspect tools for condition, and provide guidance on repairs, cleaning, and lubrication.

  • Notify supervisors of any signs of equipment abuse or neglect.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment operating hours, preventive maintenance services, and repairs.

  • Manage parts inventory, ensuring required components and supplies are available, stored securely, and reordered as necessary.

  • Perform welding and cutting to repair damaged grounds maintenance equipment, addressing broken, bent, or loose items.

  • Safely operate vehicles for the purpose of picking up or delivering parts and equipment, following all traffic laws and operator instructions.


Qualifications:



  • Minimum of two years of experience in repairing gasoline and diesel engines.

  • Minimum of two years' experience in repairing and maintaining small light equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.).

  • Proficient mechanical knowledge of engines and electrical systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues quickly and accurately.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.


Preferred Skills:



  • Strong welding and fabrication skills are a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.


Physical Demands:



  • Frequent lifting up to 20 lbs. or more.

  • Bending, stooping, and reaching frequently.

  • Prolonged standing and walking during work hours.

  • Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment.

  • Ability to kneel or squat for extended periods.

  • Reasonable accommodations can be made.


Environmental Demands:



  • Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc.).

  • Working outdoors in dusty, muddy, or wet environments.

  • Noise from machinery and equipment.

  • Contact with chemicals (e.g., oils, fuels, lubricants).

  • Insect and wildlife exposure in outdoor settings.
