Description

Knife River has excellent opportunities for an Asphalt Paving Laborer. Our asphalt paving crews consist of the following - operation of pavers, screeds, rollers, distributors, as well as raking and shoveling of asphalt and other laboring duties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Operate heavy equipment related to asphalt paving.
  • Place, shovel and rake materials with hand tools.
  • Lift and carry tools and supplies.
  • Control and guide machine to lay asphalt.
  • Fill tanks or hoppers with paving materials.
  • Light burners on machines and regulate screed temperatures.
  • Spread and compact asphalt paving.
  • Smooth out stone or concrete using special attachments.
  • Ensure all machines are well-oiled, serviced, and inspected.
  • Provide equipment cleanup as needed.
  • Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact and finish road materials, according to specifications.
  • Guide dump trucks to maintain flow of asphalt into hoppers.
  • Guide operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
  • Assist with flagging to direct motorists away from the work zone.
  • Drive or attach machines onto tractor trailers.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Proven work experience as a construction laborer is preferred.
  • Experience with construction machinery is helpful.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportion is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to travel to wherever the job is needed.
  • Ability to work for long hours in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on weekends, public holidays, and at night.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, push, pull and be on your feet for long periods of time and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Knowledge of road and traffic regulations.
  • Must have strong work ethic.
  • Communication skills; Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, physical/functional exam and drug screen
