Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI) was founded in 1918 as the Church Hymnal Corporation, a nonprofit affiliate of the Church Pension Group. Today, CPI's professionals produce about 50 new books and resources each year, and manage a portfolio of more than 2,600 active products, many sold worldwide.
The Royalties and Operations Associate is responsible for managing the operational and financial functions related to both rights and permissions and author royalties on behalf of Church Publishing Incorporated. These functions include: royalty operations, inclusive of statement preparation and author services, and royalty contracts administration. Also responsible for maintaining compliance with CPG financial policies, managing contractual obligations, and working with CPI legal counsel on contract issues. As the process owner for royalties, the Rights and Royalties Associate ensures continuous improvement of the efficiency of royalties and rights processing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Royalties
  • Direct management of all aspects of royalty contracts administration, royalty operations, including statement preparation and payments, rights accounting, and author services, royalty accounting
    • Process owner for CPI compliance for author royalties.
    • Management of royalties processes, providing analysis of workflow
    • Identify productivity and quality improvement measures and establish a corrective course of action to improve service levels.
    • Ensure that statements are generated and rendered in a timely and accurate basis to authors and agents.
    • Ensure that all royalty related accounts are reconciled on a regular basis to the general ledger.
    • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations related to reporting for authors.
    • Work with CPG Legal Counsel to ensure all copyright law, subsidiary rights, and intellectual property law is in compliance with policy
Financial Analysis
  • Provide analytical information needed for yearly filings for unclaimed property.
  • Ensure W9s are tracked and stored according to CPG's records retention policy
  • Provide administrative support to the VP Business Management & Operations and SVP/Publisher on an as-needed basis
  • Special projects on an as-needed basis

  • Working knowledge of publishing rights
  • Experience with both contracts and royalties processing
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Must be able to meet schedules/firm deadlines and make quick decisions under pressure
  • Detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain and simplify financial concepts
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • BA or equivalent experience required.
  • 3+ years in publishing and/or media
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Currently, hybrid work environment, which requires working in CPG's office Tuesdays through Thursdays and flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000
