The candidate will work under direct supervision of the Lab Director and Lab Manager to support specific research objectives, lab maintenance and administrative tasks in the Laboratory of Genital Tract Biology. The laboratory is accredited by the Commission of Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists and conducts basic and translational research in the field of mucosal inflammation and immunity. The research projects involve cell culture, processing clinical samples, protein extraction/analysis, molecular techniques and immunoassays. The research is performed under routine lab biosafety rules (biohazard levels 1 to 2+ e.g. work with human material).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Follows Infection Control, Electrical Safety, Radiation Safety and other guidelines as mandated by BWH, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies; follows HIPPA and Human Research guidelines as mandated by DHHS. Follows all standard operating procedures for Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Center for Clinical Investigation, and BWH; follows study-specific procedures. 2. Assist Lab Director and Lab Manager with lab management. Duties include maintenance of inventory and study supplies, receiving shipments of lab supplies, performing chemical inventory, performing daily assigned tasks, assists in the preparation for lab inspections, maintenance in a clean and orderly lab environment. 3. Provide assistance in executing research studies as per guidelines and protocols. Carries out standard and study-specific events as outlined in the study SOPs, and other written documents. Assists the Lab Director in drafting and/or modifying written procedures for study-specific events. 4. Assists in receiving clinical specimen collected from studies using standard and study-specific procedures. 5. Maintains and continually updates database of specimen location and status in logs and charts. 6. Perform multiplex proteome assays using state-of-the art technology. 7. Perform research-related computational data entry and analysis. Duties include Organization and processing of study data. Creates and maintains databases/files containing study data; statistical and graphical analysis 8. Perform cell culture and experimental treatments 9. Maintain lab environment and equipment; activities include strict adherence to laboratory standard operational procedures (SOP), Monitors and sets up equipment, maintenance of records for logs, SOPs, repairs, calibration and maintenance certifications 10. Perform related duties, as required QUALIFICATIONS: 1. BA, BS or MS in biology, microbiology or health sciences with biological science courses. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) * Must have basic familiarity with laboratory equipment, procedures, and scientific methodology. * Must be well organized, able and willing to maintain a neat, orderly work environment and keep meticulous, up-to-date records. * Must be able to work well with a variety of different personalities and communicate relevant information clearly. * Must be able to work effectively under stringent conditions of accuracy, sterility, and adherence to protocols in a time-pressured environment. * Must demonstrate careful attention to detail, be willing to ask questions and admit mistakes. * Must be willing to be flexible in work scheduling to accommodate research. * Working knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc. * Ability to learn new skills and procedures quickly, and perform them independently. * Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subject rights and individual needs. * Must be able to be HIPAA compliant at all times.
