The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Community Partnerships and Investments (CPI) Specialist provides subject matter expertise in the engagement strategy, processes, and framework of WWP's philanthropy portfolio. The CPI team ensures that investments achieve the greatest impact and advance WWP's mission. This role serves as a program liaison, connecting WWP programs and services with grantees while establishing a thought leadership presence at both the national and grassroots levels. The CPI Specialist is often responsible for crafting high-quality summaries and analyses for senior leadership. In collaboration with CPI leadership and teammates, the Specialist develops and maintains long-term partnerships with collaborative organizations, fostering impactful investments that align with community needs, WWP's strategic plan, and the mission to honor and empower warriors.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate Community Partnerships and Investments (CPI) operations and implement CPI strategies to foster long-lasting partnerships and drive impactful investments.

  • Serve as a liaison to WWP's communications and marketing teams, assisting in storytelling and amplifying WWP's partnership strategy, which includes external engagement and thought leadership efforts.

  • Collaborate with program teammates to facilitate inbound and outbound referrals and proactively identify, fund, incubate, and shape innovative initiatives and organizations, particularly those with the potential to grow and scale.

  • Maintain broad, in-depth knowledge of the military service organization (MSO) and veteran service organization (VSO) communities, including their needs, concerns, issues, trends, best practices, and innovations.

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate proposals through social and mission due diligence. Assist grantees with proposal development and provide investment recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Apply social impact and philanthropy strategies to help the CPI team identify, structure, and cultivate high-quality partnerships and investments. Support efforts to research organizations that fill gaps in WWP programming or complement its services, and assist WWP leadership in forging transformative, long-term partnerships that enhance warrior wellness.

  • Track and analyze emerging, vanguard efforts, trends, and opportunities in corporate philanthropy and corporate responsibility. Provide reports with recommendations for WWP to enhance its impact and presence as the premier charitable investment leader in the wounded warrior community.

  • Collaborate with WWP's resource development, mission data and insights, support, and program teams to advance organizational priorities and make responsible, high-impact investments. This may include preparing business cases and justifications for funding.

  • Ensure proper investment administration, including outcome-based metrics and branding and acknowledgment standards.

  • Assist in holding grantees accountable for high return-on-investment standards in program outcomes and metrics, including tracking how organizations collaborate programmatically and acknowledge the partnership throughout the grant term.

  • Develop community support for WWP. Present WWP's vision and values to communities, organizations, and foundations, effectively communicating WWP's history, mission, and vision, as well as the benefits of its programs and services, to inspire involvement and support.

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with community partners. Maintain regular, high-touch communication with partners and oversee stewardship of individual relationships within external organizations across the public and private sectors.

  • Conduct research and competitive analyses, including environmental scans, to inform senior leaders on investment priorities and emerging needs within the military and veteran community.

  • Provide assistance with the planning and implementation of the biennial Partner Convening.

  • Implement special projects and initiatives as needed.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of investment and philanthropic giving, including how investments are leveraged and scaled for impact.

  • Commitment to community service and philanthropy, with a strong grasp of successful grant acquisitions supporting non-profit organizations.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficient technical writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Analytical problem-solver, with the ability to proactively identify challenges, evaluate information, and implement effective solutions.

  • Skilled in internet research, database management, and CRM software, with a demonstrated understanding of data and digital platforms.

  • Experienced in program and project management, with the ability to oversee initiatives from strategy to execution.

  • Effective group presentation and facilitation skills. Confident communicator with a proven ability to present information effectively to various audiences, including large groups, small groups, and individuals.

  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence with the ability to handle sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy.

  • Professional presence and demeanor, with the ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and drive change.

  • Effective relationship builder, with well-developed interpersonal skills to engage diverse stakeholders and foster strong partnerships.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

  • Comprehensive understanding of military service organizations (MSOs) and veteran service organizations (VSOs), including their community needs and concerns.

  • Strong understanding of Wounded Warrior Project and its mission, values, programs, and services, and the impact of these programs and services on wounded warriors and their families.

  • Unequivocal commitment to the highest standards of personal and business ethics and conduct.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in grant-making, strategy consulting, non-profit business administration, impact investing, finance, program metrics, program management, communications, or a combination thereof.

Preferences

  • Three years of military experience or working with military or veteran service organizations.

  • Three years of experience working with a non-profit organization.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sociology, business, public administration, information technology, data science, economics, finance, accounting, or other relevant field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Ability to obtain ASIST Certification within 1 year of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

For Colorado Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $68,678 - $85,848 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For San Diego, California and Washington state Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $75,219 - $94,024 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For Washington, D.C. Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $78,489 - 98,112 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For New York Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $81,760 - $102,200 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
