Summary:

The Chief Commercial Banking Officer will be charged with continuing to build the Bank's well-diversified C&I, Commercial Real Estate, and Construction lending portfolios as well as deposit balances. This includes continuing to grow the Bank's Commercial portfolio at an above-average rate while maintaining strong asset quality, increasing deposit balances, and increasing core earnings.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Leadership/Management:



  1. Actively participate as a member of senior management. Maintain strong working relationships by fostering teamwork and mutual trust.
  2. Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement.
  3. Collaborate with the entire leadership team to provide guidance on strategic and operational objectives and in developing short and long-range plans, strategies, and policies.
  4. Oversee all commercial banking activities, including C&I, Commercial Real Estate, Construction, Small Business, Municipal, and SBA lending. Mentor, coach, and continue to build a team of approximately 8 lending professionals.
  5. Continually strive to improve core-banking performance, including productivity, operational efficiency, increased market share and earnings, and increased products and services per customer. Take responsibility for the Division's P&L and Balance Sheet.
  6. Foster a team-oriented environment. Serve as a positive role model and leader in the organization, maintaining an executive presence aligned with LifeDesign approach and the Servant Leadership principles.
  7. Maintain a high level of managerial competence, technical proficiency, and professionalism. Consistently demonstrate a high degree of energy and enthusiasm in executing goals/objectives.
  8. Develop a disciplined plan for where the growth will come from and what infrastructure/systems will be needed to support the expansion.
  9. Continually monitor the effectiveness of the existing lending organizational structure. Develop and recommend the Division's plan of organization and staffing. Assess HR needs and spearhead the hiring of top caliber lenders to expand the team.
  10. Recruit, hire and provide for the continued development of team members. Conduct periodic performance reviews and provide guidance/direction in developing and implementing plans and objectives. Act as a mentor to less experienced staff by assisting in their ongoing professional development.
  11. Serve on various committees including Management Loan Committee, Watched Asset Committee and Senior Management Team.


Business Development/ Marketing:



  1. Manage the team of Relationship Managers to achieve budgeted loan and deposit growth goals, including calling and business development goals, customer acquisition, growth, and retention programs.
  2. Instill a proactive and entrepreneurial business development effort combined with a consultative focus on finding creative solutions to client needs.
  3. Embrace and help lead commercial sales effort consistent with the Bank's systematized LifeDesign CARE process and approach.
  4. Continue the Bank's long-term track record of successfully generating above average growth while making asset quality and pricing recommendations consistent with the Bank's LifeDesign approach (versus "giving away" price and structure).
  5. Maximize the Bank's profitability through the appropriate pricing of new loan originations, fee income, deposits and selling of all the Bank's products and services.
  6. Interact with customers regularly to promote goodwill, obtain feedback, and resolve problems not satisfactorily addressed by others.
  7. Maintain a public profile in the marketplace to promote the Bank and refer sales opportunities to other business units in support of established objectives.
  8. Develop new business by supporting the lending organization and regularly meeting with clients, prospects, and COI's.
  9. Actively network and stay abreast of competition and share "market intelligence", discuss current projects and new business opportunities, and provide team an update on bank-wide issues.
  10. Collaborate with Cape Cod 5 and Mutual Holding Corp. to support new commercial product selection, implementation, and continuous process improvement.
  11. Stay abreast of industry trends and identify opportunities for product development.


Credit/Portfolio Administration/Regulatory:



  1. Work collaboratively with The Chief Credit Officer, credit administration and the lending team to ensure the Bank continues to expand and effectively monitors a profitable, sound loan portfolio. Ensure transparency and a strong partnership with Executive Management, Board, and the regulators so that there are no surprises.
  2. Demonstrate excellent credit skills and superior judgment in evaluating potential or existing credits.
  3. Serve as a value-added sounding board for an experienced team of lenders. Assist lenders in enhancing their credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and relationship management skills. Where appropriate, provide guidance on more complex credit requests to ensure proper structures, term sheets, and loan documentation are used.
  4. Work Collaboratively with the Chief Credit Officer on all new loan requests, loan renewals and updates.
  5. Regularly review cash flow projections with the President to determine cash needs to meet loan demand, excess cash for investment, and borrowing requirements.
  6. As part of leading the Commercial Banking function, the incumbent will model and embrace the Bank's commitment to developing/maintaining best in class Risk Audit and Compliance Management Systems.
  7. Ensure the department consistently remains in compliance with established Bank policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.



Community/Industry Involvement:



  1. Be an engaged and highly visible "face" of the Bank - be a leader and demonstrate a passion for the organization and its mission.
  2. Embrace the Bank's LifeDesign CARE process and approach
  3. Represent the Bank in the community, through various community events and through charitable board work. Enhance and maintain relations with customers, COI's, civic organizations, and the general public.
  4. Be active in banking industry organizations and programs to establish a resource network of other bankers.
  5. Remain cognizant of trends and developments affecting the industry and the Bank.
  6. Play a leadership role in delivering on a CRA plan that helps the Bank achieve an outstanding CRA rating.


Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • A solid commercial lending performance record in leadership, business development, sales management, credit, and relationship management.
  • Minimum of 10 years or equivalent of commercial lending experience.
  • Solid credit skills and proficiency with C&I, commercial real estate, and construction lending.
  • Prior management experience and a track record of community involvement are preferred.
  • Experience effectively partnering with regulators, examiners, and/or auditors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all compliance related regulatory and internal policies that guide commercial lending activity.
  • Solid written/oral communication and decision-making skills are important.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and authenticity.
  • Ability to embrace and support LifeDesign and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to drive loan and deposit growth with an emphasis on a balanced portfolio that includes a robust C&I portfolio. Ability to build the balance sheet with solid credits, strong deposit balances and add quality lenders to support the projected loan growth.
  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative style with the ability to build rapport and partner effectively with a wide variety of people at all levels (e.g. directors, employees, clients, and regulators). This includes the presence, poise, and gravitas to gain credibility and proactively keep them well informed and involved.
  • Ability to drive strategic alignment that is focused on continuous improvement, working cross-functionally, and preventing silos.
  • Strong credit orientation and attention to detail to ensure excellent asset quality and sound portfolio management are maintained.
  • Demonstrate motivation, a strong work ethic, and a passion for having an impact on clients and the community.
  • Demonstrate strong mentoring/coaching skills to develop the next generation of lenders.
  • Must have cyber security awareness to protect the digital environment, the Bank, and customers.
