The Benefits Manager is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations and communications of United Rentals' suite of health and welfare benefit plans, leave management, wellness and recognition initiatives, including managing vendor relationships, ensuring customer service, managing costs and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and provincial regulations. Manages the various benefit enrollment processes, including working with the HRIS team to ensure the Workday Benefits and Absence modules are working properly. Serves as subject matter expert in Health & Welfare benefits, wellness, and leave of absence policies and programs. Leads a team of employees (8) engaged in the ongoing administration and execution of benefits and leave of absence related programs. What you'll do: Health and Welfare Benefits Administration Manage the annual plan renewal process for United States, Canada and Puerto Rico; Manage the execution of U.S. and Puerto Rico annual open enrollment process including all related communications and system configurations; lead Wellness Program and other initiatives to foster long-term employee health; manage the Global Employee & Family Assistance Program; manage relationships and communications between consultants, administrative vendors and insurance carriers to ensure the quality of service and adherence to standards; oversee benefit plan compliance by partnering with outside legal counsel and benefits broker/consultant to ensure all benefit plans meet federal and state requirements including, but not limited to Plan Audits, 5500 filings, Discrimination Testing, OSHA reporting, ACA reporting and HIPAA required notices; and participate in M&A Health and Welfare activities by assisting the Benefits Director in discovery related analyses, and managing the overall benefits transition process. Leave of Absence Administration: Oversees the company leave of absence program for Canada, United States and Puerto Rico; Acts as the Subject Matter Expert on leave related regulations; partners with both inside and outside legal counsel on complex leave and accommodation cases; and lead a team of Benefits professionals to execute on the benefits strategy. Management & Leadership: Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; selection of employees; establish performance goals and priorities; prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals; develop, mentor and coach staff; motivate staff to work collaboratively and cooperatively; ensure efficiency of operations; and oversee personal and professional goal development.
