The School-Based Psychotherapist provides on-site mental health services within partner schools as part of Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers' initiative to support student wellbeing, academic success, and mental health equity. This role delivers evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care to students while collaborating with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to promote comprehensive mental health support.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide psychotherapeutic services to individuals and families, including individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based and developmentally appropriate approaches for diverse populations and tailored to school-aged youth.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and diagnostic evaluations, suicide risk assessments, and crisis stabilization to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Develop and implement individualized SMART treatment plans, ongoing progress assessments, and aftercare planning.
- Implement trauma-informed interventions addressing anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, trauma, and other mental health challenges.
- Utilize crisis intervention strategies to support students experiencing acute emotional distress.
- Create and lead therapeutic and social-emotional treatment groups during and after school.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of clinical activities, including treatment plans, session progress, and discharge summaries, in compliance with regulations and state standards.
- Collaborate with psychiatric providers for medication management, primary care providers, parents/caregivers, and school staff on mental health topics, classroom interventions, and trauma-informed practices.
- Supplemental services may include education of school staff on mental health topics, classroom interventions, and trauma-informed practices.
- Coordinate referrals and interventions, including safety planning for crises.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Psychology.
- Licensed or license-eligible (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Psychologist) in Wisconsin. Supervision for licensure may be available for eligible candidates.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of post-graduate clinical experience preferred; experience in community mental health, FQHC's. or school-based settings is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in evidence-based modalities (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, MI)
- Strong cultural competency and commitment to working with underserved and marginalized populations.
- Ability to work effectively in a school setting, navigating collaboration with teachers, administrators, and caregivers.
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) is highly preferred but not required.
