THRIVE is a multidisciplinary clinic consisting of a team deeply committed to meeting the needs of veterans and first responders. This position provides the opportunity to collaborate with internal and sports medicine, athletic training, audiology, speech therapy, neuropsychology, psychiatry, psychology, art therapy, and nutrition.
Summary: This position will serve as the Physical Therapist I for the Transforming Health & Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program. The THRIVE Program will be a community-based clinical outreach program designed to provide care to Veterans and First Responders who are experiencing the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or post-traumatic stress (PTS) resulting from a career serving our nation.
THRIVE is a three-phase program designed to support Veterans through evaluation, treatment, and long-term follow-up.
The program includes:
A 3-day assessment to evaluate physical, cognitive, and other health conditions.
A 3-week intensive outpatient treatment program.
Ongoing follow-ups for up to 12 months post-completion.
THRIVE serves approximately 150 Veterans annually, with referral networks and follow-up services supporting up to 400 Veterans and family members each year.
This role involves evaluating patient disabilities, planning and administering physical therapy treatments, and participating in clinical program development. Responsibilities may include supervising support staff, documenting patient progress, and educating patients and families. Work is performed under general supervision, with all treatments prescribed by a physician. THRIVE also utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic testing for vestibular dysfunctions, with onsite training available.
An ideal candidate brings experience or eagerness to learn providing trauma-informed care, has an interest in evaluating and treating mild traumatic brain injuries with emphasis on vestibular rehabilitation and spine rehabilitation.
Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostic Testing - Administers basic & complex diagnostic tests and evaluations in the area of Vestibular Physical Therapy for the treatment of mobility disorders and related impairments. On-site training available.
2. Education - Teach & supervise graduate Physical Therapy students. Develops or contributes to innovative programs to enhance patient care.
3. Evaluation of Care - Analyzes results of diagnostic and or therapeutic testing to establish patient goals and or modify subsequent treatment programs. Identifies expected patient outcomes. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
4. Implementation-- Selects and applies current and advanced techniques to provide quality and efficient rehabilitative services. Provides habilitation/rehabilitation and maintenance of persons with mobility related impairments. Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
5. Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
6. Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director.
Education Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina. -
- BLS
Professional Experience Requirements:
- No prior experience required.
