The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) is anaccredited state police agency, serving the UT community 24 hours a day. UTPD includes an investigative division, K-9 teams, bicycle patrol team and its own 911 Dispatch Center.

The Logistics Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that police officers and staff have the necessary equipment, vehicles, and supplies to perform their duties effectively. This position involves inventory management, procurement, equipment maintenance, fleet coordination, and logistical support for daily operations and emergency response.

Purpose

A Logistics Specialist for a Police Department is responsible for managing and coordinating the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and resources to ensure efficient department operations.

Responsibilities Inventory & Supply Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of department equipment,uniforms, weapons, and supplies.
  • Track usage and reorder supplies as needed to ensure availability.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of inventory and storagefacilities
Procurement & Distribution
  • Coordinate the purchase and distribution of uniforms, protectivegear, office supplies, and specialized law enforcement equipment.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to negotiate contracts and ensurecost-effective purchasing.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement regulations and departmentpolicies.
Fleet & Equipment Maintenance
  • Oversee police fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance schedules, repairs, and replacements.
  • Maintain records of vehicle assignments, fuel usage, and mileage logs.
  • Coordinate with mechanics and service providers to ensure operational readiness of vehicles and equipment
Operational & Emergency Logistics Support
  • Assist in planning and executing logistics for major events,emergencies, and tactical operations.
  • Ensure rapid deployment of necessary resources in response toincidents.
  • Support disaster response efforts by managing resource distribution
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies meet department, state, andfederal regulations.
  • Prepare reports on logistics operations, inventory levels, and budgetusage.
Axon Administration
  • Axon Administration of body worn camera assignments and upkeep,replacing as needed
  • Vehicle camera assignments and upkeep, replacing as needed
  • Classification and assigning users in Axon software.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma with at least 7 years of relevant clerical experience or a Bachelor's degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in logistics, inventory management, procurement, or supply chain operations (law enforcement or governmentagency experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of police equipment, vehicle maintenance, and procurement practices.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport heavy equipment as needed.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past law enforcement, military, or emergency management experience.
  • Certifications in supply chain management or logistics(e.g., Certified Logistics Technician, Certified Supply ChainProfessional
Salary

69,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Nights, weekends, holidays, and some severe weather work will be required
