New Hanover County is seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about contributing to the growth of New Hanover County. New Hanover County's Planning and Land Use department is comprised of a team of dedicated professionals and oversees research, planning, and zoning activities to ensure orderly growth and development for New Hanover County, using the comprehensive plan as a guide. We are committed to a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to addressing the ongoing challenges of working with the development community, residents, and other stakeholders to implement the county's long-term vision and lay a framework for the next twenty to thirty years of growth and development in the unincorporated areas of the county.
Job Responsibilities
- General office duties, staff support, and customer service.
- Coordinating board document preparation and distribution, including preparation of board minutes and agenda packets.
- Performing data entry into multiple software systems; maintaining records by developing and implementing traditional and electronic filing methods.
- Serving as one of the department's Human Resource Interfaces back-ups; and performing other clerical tasks as assigned.
- Coordinates document preparation and distribution which includes choosing appropriate forms and formats; composing correspondence, charts, memoranda, forms, and minutes; and, reviewing and editing the work of others.
- May assist with budget preparation and monitoring to include preparing reports of revenue and expense forecasts; processing invoices; and, drafting budget amendments. Performs numerous reconcilements of various systems.
- Coordinates office records by interpreting retention policies and maintaining files.
- Coordinates office schedules by scheduling meetings and making travel and training reservations.
- Assists with ordering office supplies and equipment from appropriate vendors.
- Collaborates with county staff, local and state agencies, organizations, and the public regarding the delivery of services.
- May coordinate records management system(s) for areas of assignment.
- May provide statistical data to grant funding agencies in areas of assignment.
- May assist with processing payroll and personnel action
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.

Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Schedule will include some weeknights and weekends as needed. Must be available to work during emergency situations.
Compensation:
The current hiring range for this position is
$40,048.00 - $54,064.50 + a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- Training and experience usually associated with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or related field and one year of work experience providing administrative support; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience and proficiency in using various computer software applications and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and the community are vital in this position.
- Must be able to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills effectively.
- Must have excellent computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office including SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher as well as some familiarity with Adobe Professional.
What will make your application stand out:
- Experience in preparing board meeting agendas and minutes is preferred.
- Proficiency in using software applications such as Munis, Neogov, and/or Energov is preferred.
- A cover letter that demonstrates your enthusiasm, interest, and ability to be a team player.
- Candidates who have experience serving customers in the planning, zoning, and development community is a plus.
- Familiarity with zoning, floodplain, and CAMA regulations is a plus.
