The Extracellular Targeted Cancer Therapeutics (ETCT) Biology Unit is seeking an Associate Director with a strong background in cancer biology/antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) to provide leadership in the identification of impactful ETCT-wide efforts (e.g., novel technologies, translational data packages, cutting-edge approaches for ADC development) and organization of critical data packages that are required to progress ADCs through the drug discovery process. The successful applicant will have prior experience leading internal/external cross-functional matrix teams with oversight of critical path biology and chemistry for the development of ADCs.

As an Associate Director in the ETCT BU, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Work within a dynamic environment to independently manage matrix team and mentor other team leaders to influence the direction of preclinical and clinical stage assets within the ETCT portfolio.
  • Identification of novel technologies and strategies to progress the ETCT portfolio.
  • Play a lead role in advancing GSK's growing pipeline of tumor targeted therapeutics, with ownership of ETCT-wide research efforts and demonstration of subject matter expertise in cancer biology/ADCs.
  • Network with external key opinion leaders in the field and initiate/manage external collaborations.
  • Establish communication networks and strategic partnerships across the GSK R&D organization.
  • Perform scientific due diligence review of in-licensing opportunities with the GSK Business Development organization.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology or related fields with 3+ years of post-doctoral training.
  • 2+ years of research leadership experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
  • Experience or detailed knowledge of the design and testing of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • Deep expertise in cancer cell biology and a record of established scientific relationships/ collaborations in Oncology.
  • Expertise defining and executing target identification, validation, assay development and critical path mechanistic biology.
  • Experience developing and implementing scientific strategies in Oncology or related disciplines with 12 to 24-month planning horizons.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • 5+ years pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry research and leadership experience.
  • Experience establishing scientific relationships in Oncology.
  • Strong peer-reviewed publication, public speaking / presentation and/or inventorship record.
  • The ability to work independently with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
