This is a one (1) year 100% Contract position. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs and funding of the department.

DESCRIPTION

Serves as the Research Data Analyst for multiple grant funded studies and will use skills as a research professional with an understanding of the fields of finance and insurance, and moderate and complex statistical and econometric analyses and research software programming techniques. Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, performing statistical analyses, providing data management. Participates in the development of programming protocols, manuscript and presentation preparation. This individual will work closely with the research team and co-investigators. Projects will include an assessment of potential insurance solutions for coastal flooding in California, and a geographic information systems (GIS) assessment of social vulnerability to flood hazards related to reservoir management across the United States.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative or scientific field, Ph.D. or master's degree in finance or economics preferred.

  • Experience in finance, insurance, and climate modeling.

  • Working knowledge of research function. Knowledge of academic research settings, functions, processes, and outcomes. Experience working in academic research setting and with teams of researchers to develop, conduct, and report on research findings.

  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures. Knowledge of and ability to execute both simple to complex statistical analysis including descriptive analysis, variable reduction, generalized regression analysis, and Bayesian statistics.

  • Proficient in statistical and machine learning programming languages (R and Python). Experience using a statistical programming language including developing and executing various types of econometric methods, generalized regressions, Bayesian analyses, graph visualizations, and result table construction.

  • Experience working with large data sets and geospatial data sets for running statistical analysis.

  • Working skills preparing scientific reports, published authorship or major contribution to writing publications. Experience writing academic and scientific reports.

  • Working skills in analysis and consultation. Skills in executing required analyses and data tasks. Proficient in guiding and recommending analytic processes to the research team as needed.

  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Ability to document, report, and communicate analysis processes employed, as well as meaning of results is an integral aspect of the position.

  • Skills in handling multiple projects and tasks concurrently.

  • Ability to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
