Health Solutions Legal Policy Leader

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work virtually and from our Washington D.C. office (strongly preferred) or one of our East Coast Aon offices.

What the day will look like

The Health Solutions Policy Leader will lead a team passionate about understanding the policy landscape to anticipate potential regulatory and legislative actions and the impact on the health practice and its clients. The leader will help develop solutions to address regulatory and compliance challenges and/or to take advantage of innovative opportunities based on the federal and state policy landscape. This role will report to the Health Solutions Compliance, Policy, and Regulatory Leader within the Innovation and Integrated Solutions (IIS) team in the health practice and partner with Aon's Government Affairs office.

  • Develop the health strategy and role in health care policy at the federal and state level to impact Health Solutions' client consulting and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with market leaders in the practice developing innovative solutions for clients in response to regulatory and legislative requirements and opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal Aon team members and collaborators on Health Solutions legislative and regulatory priorities and work across Aon to ensure consistent messages and strategies.
  • In conjunction with the Government Affair's team, advocate, as appropriate, for regulatory and legislative initiatives that support the practice and its clients.
  • Brief senior Health Solutions and Aon leadership on legislative developments and their impacts.
  • Lead and coordinate consulting alerts and prepare education materials for external clients and internal client teams on federal and state health policy initiatives and the specific impact of those initiatives on employers and health plans.
  • Serve as a leader with a point of view in the market to showcase Aon's expertise in the health arena.
  • Models a "one-firm" mindset at all times.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • Fifteen plus years of proven experience in the healthcare legal and regulatory environment in private practice, government, trade associations, or similar industries.
  • Substantive knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, the Affordable Care Act, the Internal Revenue Code, and other key benefits and health care related statutes and regulations as well as federal/state processes.
  • Ability to understand how the US legislative and regulatory environment impacts employers' strategy, administration, and communications around health benefits.
  • Knowledgeable about Health Consulting capabilities and the connection to the US regulatory and legislative landscape.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to take technical legal information and explain to non-lawyers in a practical, effective manner.
  • Active member of any U.S. state bar association.

Education: Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $245,000 to $325,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
