In our Corporate Technology Development and Engineering Center (TDEC) in Milan, Ohio, we also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Responsibilities
The Corporate Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading an integrated Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality (SHE&Q), and Risk Management program for Sierra Lobo, Inc. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters a culture of safety, quality, risk management and operational excellence throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Program Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive SHE&Q and risk management strategy aligned with company goals and industry best practices.
- Provide strategic leadership in fostering a culture of safety and quality across all company locations and operations.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in safety, health, environmental, quality, and risk management policies and procedures.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, industry standards, and contract requirements including 29 CFR 1910, 1920 (OSHA), EPA, AS9100, ISO 9001, and other relevant aerospace and safety regulations.
- Oversee audits, inspections, and assessments to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response, crisis management plans, mishap/ accident investigations.
SHEQ Management & Continuous Improvement:
- Oversee the AS9100-registered Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring effective implementation, compliance and continual improvement.
- Oversees the corporate wide safety, health, and environmental programs across all SLI operating sites and customer contract operating locations, ensuring effective implementation and continual improvement.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives using methods like Six Sigma to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborates with engineering, operations, production, and supply chain teams to drive quality, operational excellence initiatives, and compliance.
- Ensures SLI site SHE&Q managers and representative have the proper resources to do their jobs.
Training & Employee Engagement:
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote a strong safety and quality culture across the organization.
- Engage with employees at all levels to encourage proactive safety and quality behaviors.
- Establish and lead safety and quality committees, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Reporting & Performance Metrics:
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety, quality, and risk performance.
- Prepare and present reports to senior leadership, identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Benchmark performance against industry standards and implement best practices.
Oversees integrity of corporate SHEQ records and regulatory reporting.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience:
- A B.S. degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a technical degree with a minimum of 10 years direct experience in the field of safety, health, environmental, and quality assurance. An advanced degree in safety, physical sciences, and/or business management is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in safety, health, environmental, and quality management within the aerospace and/ or industries involving hazardous operations.
- In-depth knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, OSHA, EPA, and other relevant standards and regulations.
- Proven experience in risk management, incident investigation, and root cause analysis preferred.
- Strong background in continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean and Six Sigma preferred.
- Ability to travel as needed to company locations and supplier sites.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, make decisions, function with all levels of the organization, interpret and apply safety requirements, develop safety procedures and write reports, conduct safety audits, and maintain corrective action database.
- Must have the ability to effectively work and communicate with the clients, management team, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Must have the ability to develop and implement safety and quality programs and policies.
- Prior experience in federal contracting is preferred.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent
- Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
- ISO 9001/AS9100 Lead Auditor
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and manufacturing, and hazardous operations environments.
- Frequent interaction with employees at all levels, including senior leadership, production staff, and external stakeholders.
- Travel 30% of time to company sites and supplier locations.
