Summary of Position

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Cell Culture Sciences group as an intern. This position will focus on the use of Ambr 15 (automated microbioreactor system) and REBEL (for spent media analysis) for use in fed-batch and perfusion recombinant protein production cell culture processes. The intern project will have 3 phases and provide an in-depth experience of upstream process development.

Responsibilities and Job Duties



  • Learn the basics of upstream process development. Including aseptic cell culture in shake flasks and bioreactors, bioreactor setup and operation of high-throughput or bench-scale disposable bioreactors, cell growth monitoring, and metabolite analysis.
  • Collaborate with CCS team members to create, execute, and analyze experiments relevant to the intern project.

    • Phase 1: Implement scale-down perfusion process at Ambr 15 scale.
    • Phase 2: Experimentally optimize a platform process using spent media analysis and spiking studies. Additionally, define the max/min amino acid levels for that process.
    • Phase 3: Increase efficiency of data processing and reporting inside electronic lab notebook.


  • Present results and findings to CCS group and the Biopharmaceutical Development Department.


Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certifications & Experience

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related science or engineering field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Basic laboratory skills and/or research experience, such as: lab notebook recording, analysis and


interpretation of data, and safe lab practices.



  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, curiosity-driven and able to perform hands-on work in the laboratory.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Cell Biology and/or cell culturing.
  • Experience with statistics and/or JMP statistical software.


Additional Information

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $21.50. For non-exempt roles, and according to applicable regulations, there may be the possibility for overtime pay. Eligible intern employees may participate in the 401(k) plan with employer match and may receive the company holiday benefit if the holiday falls on a regularly scheduled workday. An intern will accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours of working time. Interns are responsible for their own travel, housing, and living expenses.

The pay rate range is described in good faith, and the Company believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting depending on the candidate's experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. The Company may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and this range may be modified in the future. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable under the terms and conditions of the applicable policies and plans. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company's sole discretion, consistent with the law.
