Medical Assistant Intern

This position is intended for a current student in an Accredited Medical Assistant Program (i.e. Dorsey, Ross, Everest, etc.)

Job Summary

On the job internship training while actively enrolled and completing required course work in an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program. Interns may be employed in an intern position for a maximum of 6 months. Works under the direct supervision of a clinical preceptor (MA, RN, provider) to maintain patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care in the clinic setting. Performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities within their current scope of practice dictated by their training program and successful competency performance under direct supervision. May progress to Medical Assistant position after successful completion of their MA program.

Essential Functions

  • Under direct supervision, assists the physician/provider by providing primary healthcare and patient care management.
  • Collaborates work efforts with the clerical staff to optimize operations and patient flow.
  • Assists with interactions with outside healthcare facilities and agencies involving patient care and insurance
  • Demonstrates the ability to speak to leadership and accreditation bodies about process and workflow.
  • Performs front office duties to provide coverage as needed
  • Rotates to other departments or locations under direct supervision as needed.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer services skills and supports the model of patient and family centered care.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Enrolled in an accredited Medical Assistant program and in good academic standing. In the event the intern is unsuccessful with any course work he/she can remain in the intern position for a maximum of 6 months. Required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA, upon hire required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC, upon hire required
