Overview

SSOE is hiring for a Senior Systems Administrator for our growing Information Technology team. This person will be responsible for leading IT projects and providing strategic oversight and technical leadership. Available locations are Toledo (OH), Troy (MI) and Hillsboro (OR).

Responsibilities

A Typical Day Might Include:

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

    Plan, implement, and continuously evaluate enterprise-level infrastructure systems, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Provide strategic oversight and technical leadership for systems managed by System Administrator I and II personnel, offering guidance, mentorship, and escalation support to maintain seamless IT operations.
  • Experience in leading or managing IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
  • Work across cross-functional teams, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans and high-availability strategies.
  • Oversee backup systems, data replication, and failover solutions to ensure business continuity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues across hardware, software, and network layers.
  • Analytical mindset to assess systems for performance, scalability, and security improvements.
  • Mentors and provides technical assistance to System Administrator 1 and 2 personnel (and other personnel as requested and appropriate).
  • Development and documentation of IT policies and procedures.
  • Provide input on enterprise architecture and IT strategy.
  • Take part in yearly IT budget planning.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with vendors for hardware and software procurement.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Valid driver's license required. May be waived for international assignments


Qualifications

Qualifications You'll Need on Day One:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in systems administration, infrastructure management, and enterprise IT operations.
  • Advanced technical expertise managing and maintaining IT infrastructure.
  • Advanced proficiency in managing and maintaining complex IT infrastructures, including on-premises and cloud-based environments.
  • Hands-on experience in managing enterprise-level servers, storage systems, and virtualization technologies.
  • Extensive experience in system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting across Windows Server and Azure Cloud ecosystems.
  • Hands-on expertise in enterprise-grade virtualization technologies, including VMware, Hyper-V, and cloud-native virtualization solutions.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and other critical infrastructure services.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise storage systems, backup solutions, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Proficient in networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs, with the ability to collaborate with network teams to optimize performance and security.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation skills to enhance system efficiency, streamline administrative tasks, and improve deployment processes.
  • Ability to collaborate with security teams to ensure systems adhere to compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the capability to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
