Responsibilities
Summary This position is responsible for coordinating and administering work involved in maintaining and scheduling repairs to a fleet of vehicles including automobiles, vans and buses used in the operation of transporting inmates or detainees between locations. This position ensures that facility vehicles are maintained and repaired in an efficient and cost-effective manner according to standard operating policies, procedures, maintenance schedules and in compliance with federal, state, and organization laws, rules, and regulations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Complies with division's operational Ensures compliance to the preventive maintenance program and maintains the electronic maintenance matrix.
- Examines vehicles and discusses assessments with management regarding the nature of the fleet, mechanical issues or malfunctions, damages to vehicles as a result of an accident, GPS tracking systems, DVR systems, communication systems and all safety equipment installed or on board each vehicle.
- Performs preventative maintenance designed to allow most employees including drivers to perform the tasks which parallels the FMCSR requirements and includes operational safety items.
- Prepares short- and long-range plans for transport operations and maintenance plans including vehicle repair and Plans and coordinates the scheduling of the facility's maintenance and repair system. Maintains associated activity reports.
- Ensures necessary forms (DVIR) are completed accurately and Ensures files and documents are completed according to the procedure manual and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Ensures timely completion of all annual Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle safety inspections and attaches inspection placards on vehicles as required.
- Ensures all registrations and permits are renewed on a timely basis, properly placing placards onto vehicles and maintaining proper filings.
- Ensures all work orders are reviewed and repairs made as required.
- Promotes and coordinates training and mentoring opportunities to assist staff in carrying out their work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Coordinates with approved vendors for repairing and cleaning all fleet vehicles assigned.
- Enforces compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
- Confers with management, staff, and vendors to exchange information to resolve problems related to effective fleet operations.
- Monitors field work to ensure that it is being performed properly and that supplies and materials are being used properly and effectively.
- Works with management staff to ensure compliance to organizational, contractual, federal, and state policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Monitors and ensures all GPS tracking systems are always operational.
- Monitors and ensures all DVR systems are always operational.
- Replaces equipment and makes minor repairs; replaces lights, installs and trouble shoots Verizon Connect trackers, DVR, communication systems, wind shield wiper blades, etc.
- Coordinate registrations, insurance cards, and fuel tax decals.
- Responsible for fleet appearance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
- Previous experience as a dispatcher or customer service occupation preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience coordinating or maintaining on-highway motor vehicles used within an organized fleet environment.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification desirable.
- Current driver's license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years. Obtain a minimum of a valid "Class B" (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement within six (6) months of appointment to position. Be able to complete an Eighty (80) hour course of driver's training from an approved company trainer and as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation within six (6) months of appointment to position.
- Pass a company and DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Must be able to obtain necessary training as defined by the DOT (Department of Transportation).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to communicate and interact with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to give instructions in a manner that provides teamwork and a cooperative spirit.
- Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.
