Position in this function is responsible for optimizing patient outcomes related to drug therapy by assessing multiple aspects of patient care and making appropriate recommendations. Promotes continuity between the clinical areas and the clinical pharmacy department with the goal of providing the highest level of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to total quality management including customer satisfaction and performance improvement.

Schedule: Hybrid, 40 hours per week

Locations: Worcester, Framingham & Southborough

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Provides clinical pharmacy education and consultative input. Reviews patient's medication history for appropriateness of drug therapy and intervenes as required for all clinical pharmacy programs and services. Acts as a source for drug information and counseling subsequent to referral. Performs retrospective drug reviews in conformance with OBRA regulations and departmental policies and procedures
  • Works with providers to promote optimal drug therapy for patients. Provides assessment and recommendation on drug therapy to providers for all clinical pharmacy programs and services. Interacts with prescribers as necessary to resolve medication issues and concerns
  • Serves as a liaison to the clinical and medical staff. Provides drug information to providers as required. Coordinates comprehensive literature searches as appropriate. Provides in-service presentations relating to priority clinical pharmacy care issues
  • Serves as an operational liaison between the clinical area and the outpatient pharmacies. Effectively facilitates problem resolution between the clinical area and the pharmacy. Provides in-service presentations concerning operational initiatives.
  • Promotes positive working relationships between the clinical area and the pharmacy
  • Maintains an information database of activities. Tracks clinical pharmacy interventions and recommendations and assesses clinical activities. Evaluates pharmacoeconomic impact as a measurement of performance. Acts as an information resource by providing drug information to prescribers and other healthcare professionals

Required Qualifications:



  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree
  • Massachusetts license in pharmacy or eligibility for licensure
  • Professional experience
  • Knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Demonstrated interest in proficiency in clinical pharmacy


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Completion of ASHP accredited residency
  • Proven ability to work independently; handle multiple tasks simultaneously; work harmoniously in a fast paced environment
  • Proven excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills


Physical Requirement:



  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position


The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
