Your Role as a Special Education Teacher

  • Engage & Educate - Deliver lessons according to the classroom teacher's plans.
  • Classroom Management - Implement effective behavioral systems and trauma-informed care strategies.
  • Student Support - Provide accommodations for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaboration - Work closely with paraprofessionals and school staff to create a structured, safe learning environment.
  • Crisis Management - Respond to situations and assist students in maintaining a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Education - Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college
  • Licensure - Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
  • Knowledge - Demonstrated expertise of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
  • Experience - Prior experience in education or working with students (preferred, not required).
  • Adaptability - Ability to work with different classrooms, grade levels, and student needs.
  • Technology Skills - Comfortable with instructional technology.
  • Certifications (Upon Hire) - CPR, First Aid, Crisis Management, and a driver's license with a good record.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with a preference for those with an educational background
  • While a current Virginia teaching license is preferred, North Spring will assist candidates with the coursework necessary for a provisional teaching license.
  • Good computer skills are required
  • Experience with youth in a residential setting is preferred
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Subject to a criminal background check and drug screen
