What you'll be doing...

The GN&T Network Security Team has an opening for an Associate Director of Network Intelligence. This person will lead a team of highly skilled individual contributors responsible for the design, build, and operation of infrastructure and services to enable big data platforms, security visibility, and analytics defending Verizon's Networks against cybersecurity threats. The scope of networks and infrastructure defended include Verizon's global management, consumer, enterprise, and wireless networks along with our internal cloud platform (VCP) and core/edge applications managed throughout the GN&T organization. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, collaboration, and technical skills. They will be expected to define objectives, set priorities, align resources, brief executive teams, achieve OpEx and CapEx goals, improve the security of the networks, and inspire future leaders while reducing cyber risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading a global team of 12-18 network security engineers responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and securing a complex network of data collection and analytical tools.
  • Implementing and operating solutions to help prevent, detect, and mitigate threats across GN&T Networks including the Verizon Cloud Platform.
  • Building and operating big data solutions to improve network and cyber visibility, asset awareness, and threat detection using the latest machine learning and AI models.
  • Ensuring that the security controls planned for the Networks are operating effectively with the broadest coverage and prioritize by risk.
  • Optimizing and administering the capital and expense budgets and driving an automation culture.
  • Ensuring the team is working on the right things, and saying "no" to things that detract from the mission.
  • Championing a highly collaborative work model with an aptitude of building and maintaining relationships across different teams at multiple levels, internally and externally.
  • Establishing a high standard of team performance objectives and supporting career development and progression within the organization.
  • Ensuring compliance with Verizon and department objectives and financial priorities.
  • Interviewing, hiring and retaining great people.
  • Other responsibilities as designated.
What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or related discipline.

  • Five or more years of technical leadership experience in Security, IT or Networking.

  • Experience developing and delivering network, application or security solutions.

  • Proven leadership skills and business acumen within a large organization.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of networking and network security.

  • Experience building relationships with business leaders across networking and security teams as well as other business units.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Strong networking and cybersecurity knowledge and experience.

  • Established track record in managing complex processes, driving results, and adapting to change.

  • Demonstrated success leading organizations providing cybersecurity engineering.

  • The ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and educate peers and teams on security concepts and overall importance to the business.

  • Recent experience with machine learning, statistical analysis, graph theory or artificial intelligence.

  • Hands-on experience working with internet-scale data sets such as Netflow, BGP, DNS, and IDS logs.

  • Knowledge of network-based, system-level, and application layer attacks and mitigation methods.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
