Role Description

The Protein Discovery and Bioanalytics Team (Protein Therapeutics) is seeking a talented biochemist with experience in antibody screening. This scientist will be part of a multi-disciplinary team assisting with culturing and transfecting cells, developing biochemical methods and high-throughput assays, supporting efforts on the automation of protein expression, purification, characterization and data analysis. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a matrixed team environment and will collaborate with other teams across the organization.

Experience with molecular biology, protein-protein interactions, display technologies, and in vitro methods predicting in vivo activity is an advantage, but not required. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Culturing and transfecting mammalian cells
  • Developing biochemical assays
  • Isolating and working with primary immunological cells
  • Supporting efforts on the automation of protein expression, purification and data analysis
  • Collaborating with other teams across the organization on multiple scientific disciplines
  • Critical thinking and excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.
  • Directly communicate with internal and external partners for collaborations and outsourcing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Educational background: BS or MS or PhD (molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, immunology or related field).
  • Experience in biochemistry, high-throughput assays and mammalian protein expression
  • Experience with primary immunological cell isolation and culturing
  • Expertise in flow cytometry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to design, interpret, and present complex scientific data in a team environment is required
  • Ability to work independently with ambiguity and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently, design experiments with minimal supervision, and able work across teams remotely and face-to-face.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with any of these techniques are an advantage, but not required: molecular biology, protein-protein interactions, display technologies, and in vitro methods predicting in vivo activity

Work environment:

The placement of this position will be primarily in Fort Collins, CO and is a lab-based position. Occasional travel to R&D headquarters in Kalamazoo, MI may also be requested.

The person filling this position will work in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
