Overview

Provides underwriting expertise to agents, insureds and internal employees, as well as outside entities such as courts, departments of insurance, etc., for litigation, market conduct examinations, and department of insurance complaints and hearings. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Conducts multi-state and multi-line exception underwriting to accept, modify, decline, cancel or non-renew personal lines exposures.
  • Acts as a resource for the company on complex and technically involved personal lines issues. Researches and interprets statutes, regulations, legislative bulletins and industry intelligence as needed.
  • Accepts and resolves agency and customer issues (phone calls, correspondence, Contact-Us emails, etc.) referred due to authority level or technical expertise. Areas of expertise include (though are not limited to) personal lines products, eligibility, rating plan and coverages, legal and regulatory issues, workflows, and the automated systems that support personal lines.
  • Conducts formal training sessions for employees and agency personnel
  • Accountable for timely and accurate review of Department of Insurance(DOI) complaints referred by the Business Practices Group (BCP), and composition of a detailed explanation of Selective's position relative to the complaint for BCP's response back to the DOI. Involved in resulting appeals and hearings as needed.
  • Interacts with Claims personnel and agents on the resolution of claims. Responsible for examining Claims adjusters' Risk Referral Reports and initiating appropriate action (e.g., addition of undisclosed drivers, policy non-renewal, etc.).
  • Participates in agency visits, as needed, to support the Personal Lines Territory Managers, Agency Analysts, BSU Technical Field representatives, Agency Management Specialists.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers in a variety of methods, such as by telephone, direct contact, and written correspondence including email.
  • Experience working with and responding to Department of Insurance complaints.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years experience in the insurance industry analyzing business needs, industry trends and best practice.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $82,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
