Criminal Justice Liaison Intern

Behavioral Health Services

Expected Hourly Pay: $15.00

Part-Time Internship

Job Summary: TWO part-time internship opportunities will support effective communications between the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and various Criminal Justice System (CJS) partners. The Criminal Justice Liaison Interns will function as part of the Community Access to Recovery Services (CARS) intake team, which completes initial assessments and links individuals to community-based behavioral health services. These interns will receive clinical supervision from licensed CARS staff members while gaining valuable clinical experiences. Interns will assist with transition planning services for in-custody individuals with behavioral health needs, help facilitate the transition from custody to community supports and resources, connect persons with mental health related illness to community-based agencies, and communicate with attorneys, families, and guardians.

Job Duties:



  • Perform Clinical Assessments. Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to determine appropriate types of community-based care which include a clinical interview and supporting collateral information.
  • Review Medical Records. Access and review pertinent medical records to further augment the clinical assessment.
  • Facilitate Referrals. Complete referrals to community-based services as indicated by the results of the clinical assessment.
  • Staff meetings and Trainings. Partake in various meetings to foster better understanding of the available community-based services.
  • Routine Supervision. Receive ongoing scheduled supervision from a licensed direct supervisor.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current resident of the state of Wisconsin.
  • Untied States Driver's License and Insurance maintained throughout employment.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's program and must have at least 2 years of experience with the serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) population.
  • Candidates enrolled in a master's program related to behavioral health care will also be eligible.
  • Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 16 hours per week.
  • Candidates should have adequate computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite products to include Word and Excel.
  • Ability and willing to travel within the community up to 20% of the time as part of providing community-based services.

Hourly Pay Range: $14.21 - $21.73
