As an Assistant Operations Manager, you'll help lead our teams in maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while prioritizing the safety of all team members. As a steward of operational excellence an Assistant Operations Manager will need to be flexible and adapt to changing operational needs and schedules. With our dedicated teams working on all three coasts across over 33 ports and 70 locations, you'll feel empowered to grow professionally while serving the communities in which we operate.

Essential Duties:



  • Enforcement of shop procedures, practices, and policies to address the PM, CM, safety and environmental needs effectively and efficiently to the fleet to provide equipment available for operational needs.
  • Supports profitability goals through effective and efficient labor management.
  • Operate within approved fiscal and capital equipment budget limits and be able to fully explain variances from budget plan to the Department Manager.
  • Complies with Ports America Safety policies and procedures and provides on-going feedback to labor.
  • Secures, evaluates, and directs mechanics, ensuring high levels of productivity and quality repairs.
  • Keeps Equipment Services Manager informed of work status and problems as they arise.
  • Ability to obtain thorough knowledge of union contracts, ensuring adherence to policy and contract procedures.
  • Completes production, payroll-related, safety and other reports accurately (either within the computer system or manually) and submits to appropriate PA staff and others as required on a timely basis.
  • Use current CMMS (MainPac) to plan and document all related costs, inventories, and job planning.
  • Actively participates in the improvement and enhancement of operational procedures and systems by providing ideas and feedback.
  • Evaluate and select outside contractors and vendors who can provide quality products and services at the best price.
  • Works closely with other Maintenance and Operations departments to coordinate repair and maintenance activities and to arrange down time for repairs and maintenance.
  • Works with Engineering Manager to develop schedules for maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring that tools and replacement parts are available, and that preventative maintenance is included in repair schedules.
  • Analyzes equipment status, determining and recommending modification, improvement and new equipment needs, ensuring full and safe operating efficiency.
  • Provides comprehensive work direction to all laborers at the beginning of each work assignment and provides a follow-up assessment upon completion.
  • Completes other tasks and projects as assigned.


Physical Working Attributes:



  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasional sitting.
  • Climb up and down stairs and equipment.
  • Lift, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs.
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • Work in an environment with moving objects and machinery; the environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast-moving heavy equipment.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of maintenance related experience
  • 3+ years of experience supervising industrial or automotive maintenance repair operations
  • Obtain and maintain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security
  • Valid US Driver's License


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations and related industry governmental regulations.
  • Experience planning and organizing multiple projects in fast paced environment.
  • Respond quickly in a fast-paced environment and be available to work varied hours, shifts and days.
  • Proven communication skills
  • Knowledge of the gear and equipment used in a port environment.



Compensation Range: $68K - $72K depending on experience
