Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Long-term Intern to join our Environmental & Facilities Department based in Columbus, MS.

In this role, you'll provide Sustainability and Environmental Compliance/Project support to our US team in Texas and Mississippi.

Working in our Environmental & Facilities Department, it's our mission to help support Airbus' greatest assets: our team members and our products. Our team works cross-departmentally as well as with our global counterparts to ensure we are making a positive impact with reliable and safe aircraft and workspaces.

Your Working Environment:

On the eastern border of Mississippi you'll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It's here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

Environmental Project Support (Requires Completion of Hazwoper Training): 50 %

  • Assist with daily and weekly compliance inspections, as required.

  • Assist with Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste management and reporting.

  • Review/maintain environmental records.

  • Support environmental tasks related to Paint Booth/Mixing Room Cleaning project

  • Support activities involving Non-Industrial Plastics Reduction Program.

Facilities Sustainability Project Support: 50 %

  • Develop sustainability project statements of work.

  • Conduct visual facility inspections on stationary source emission equipment and establish performance reporting.

  • Assist AHI Facilities Project Team with coordination of project scope, procurement of materials, timelines and scheduling and general project support.

  • Participate in project impact reporting process and long term sustainability roadmapping.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Manager Environmental or Sr. Manager Facilities.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Must be currently local to the Columbus, MS area as this is a long-term, onsite, internship opportunity

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering/Environmental/Sustainability Studies or equivalent degree.

  • Eligible for employment in the US

  • US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder or person covered under our existing ITAR license), Authorized to work in the US, Able to work in US without current or future need for visa sponsorship)

  • Must be computer literate (Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point or similar Google software applications)

  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite 100% of the time.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings several times a week.

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms on a daily basis.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications daily.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts on a daily basis.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools on a daily basis.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer on a daily basis.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor on a daily basis.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces on a daily basis.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
