Description

The Sr. Loan Reviewer will analyze loans, emphasizing the more complex credits from the Bank's portfolio for credit quality, analytical accuracy, and adherence to Bank policy. The Loan Review process will focus on assessing overall and loan-by-loan credit quality. The Sr. Loan Reviewer will be required to have an advanced understanding of loan policies, risk ratings, credit underwriting, financial analysis, and collateral evaluation. This individual will share responsibility with teammates for meeting all review completion deadlines in order to adhere to the annual review schedule and attainment of required portfolio coverage. The Sr. Loan Reviewer will also serve as a review lead, managing and directing select loan review activities. The Sr. Loan Reviewer will assist with training and mentoring junior members of the Loan Review department and with preparing reports for distribution to management and the Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • When not serving as Review Lead, perform detailed and independent loan file reviews, using technical subject matter expertise and knowledge, focusing on the examination of more complex credits.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment in evaluating loan credit quality, thoroughness of risk identification, accuracy of financial analysis, appropriateness of loan structure, support for risk grade/credit decision, policy compliance, and administrative completeness.
  • Review credit processes to ensure policy compliance and consistency across credit groups and identify opportunities to enhance quality, accuracy, and/or efficiency. Make recommendations to senior management based on findings from Loan Reviews to improve and strengthen policies, and procedures.
  • Identify areas of risk and seek ways to assist the Bank in strengthening controls and improving efficiency while mitigating risk.
  • Participate in exit meetings with lending units to discuss findings, issues, and/or concerns. Assist in drafting Loan Review Reports to communicate findings to senior management by generating formal audit reports, raising issues for resolution, and making recommendations
  • Perform Continuous Risk Monitoring activities on assigned portfolio segments
  • Provide guidance to junior team members and review work for accuracy and quality of analysis.
  • For assigned examinations, notify the business unit of the examination and discuss the process and expectations.
  • Plan and recommend scope for the examination.
  • Manage file review activities to ensure consistency and appropriateness of conclusions.
  • Provide secondary review of line sheets.
  • Communicate findings timely with the business unit and Loan Review Manager.
  • Communicate emerging themes and potential issues with Loan Reviewers and Loan Review Manager.
  • Plan, and coordinate with Loan Review Manager to conduct, exit meetings with lending units to discuss findings, issues and/or concerns.
  • Draft Loan Review Reports to communicate findings to senior management by generating formal audit report, raising issues for resolution, and making recommendations.
  • Perform special projects and targeted reviews as directed.
  • Assist in analyzing trends within the loan portfolio.
  • Assist in developing monitoring procedures or analyses to ensure timely identification of significant risk or other trends in the Bank's loan portfolio.
  • Participate in efforts to enhance department and Bank procedures for loan review, credit processes, risk ratings, exception monitoring, portfolio analysis, management reporting and other areas. Includes making recommendations based on technical subject matter expertise and knowledge.
  • Interact with auditors, examiners, and other third parties as needed.



QUALIFICATIONS



  • Minimum 7 years of direct underwriting or loan review experience required, including minimum 5 years within a regulated financial institution required. Comparable experience as a bank examiner or performing loan review with a consulting/accounting firm is acceptable.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a position with loan review or credit approval responsibility.
  • Broad lending knowledge and experience encompassing a wide range of loan types required, including expertise in CRE and C&I.
  • Direct experience with Federal and state regulators and both internal and external auditors strongly preferred.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Possesses strong analytical skills, including the ability to collect and interpret data and draw conclusions.
  • Fundamental understanding of principal banking regulations governing lending and associated disciplines.
  • Displays excellent attention to detail and delivers highly accurate work product.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate independent judgment.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills. Able to manage high-volume workflow, prioritize appropriately and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Able to review and interpret an extensive variety of business unit and technical reports, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures.
  • Able to work in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Application, especially Excel spreadsheets.



A reasonable, good-faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base salary or pay for this position is $108,756.75 to $150,000.00. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. A discretionary bonus and/or business line incentive may be provided, in addition to medical and other benefits, dependent on the position.
