You will have the ability to: act in a highly strategic capacity by helping leaders and business units improve their capabilities and meet goals through lean management theories and techniques. Lean Coaches leverage a combination of 1 on 1 coaching, training design and delivery, event-based improvements, and broader change management activities to improve how work is done, how problems are solved, and how leaders lead. As a result, Lean Coaches play a key role enhancing business performance to fulfill CenterPoint's vision, strategy, and annual plan. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the area they are coaching, be able to convey ideas across management levels, and understand how people learn. They should also be proficient in lean thinking tools, methods, and methodologies. Essential Functions:
- Support setup of select Weekly Operating Review rooms to drive (a) business unit management and strategy execution and (b) cross-functional initiatives strategic to CenterPoint.
- 1 on 1 coaching of senior management in the implementation of daily, weekly, monthly reviews, visual management, and problem solving; use situational guidance that is respectful, engaging, and challenging.
- Continually work with leadership to ensure continual progress is being made in all production areas to affect lean systems and culture.
- Lead forums, publications, surveys, and other change management activities to rollout the lean operating system among directors, managers, supervisors, and individual contributors.
- Demonstrate a mastery of communication skills required to successfully coordinate with senior business stakeholders (VP/SVP/EC level).
- Partner with Lean and Continuous Improvement department to bring to business units, as needed, event-based improvements, KPI development, standardization of work, and waste elimination through the application of CI tools.
- Design and deliver training, webcasts, workshops, and other learning activities that support the lean tools rollout across ranks and employee journeys.
- Support execution across all described processes, to include consulting with business at all levels to successfully execute planning and operating system processes.
- Exercise discretion on complex problems, utilize extensive knowledge of theories and technics associated with the lean deployment and associated tools, documents, and processes.
- Build maturity of the organization to be customer centric.
- Experience/Examples transforming organizations.
- Communicate progress and achievements of lean activities.
- Manage schedules and provide updates assuming multiple concurrent assignments.
- Regularly develop and add to own skills, and mentor and develop lesser experienced members of team.
- Position may require 25% travel.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study (Industrial Engineering, Lean, operations research, business, or organizational management preferred) with a minimum of 5-8+ years of comparable work experience or Master's degree in a relevant field of study with 4+ years of comparable work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience EXPERIENCE:
- Leadership experience, direct or indirect, preferred
- Minimum 5 years in lean methodologies, Hoshin, process improvement, project management, financial analytics, agile and/or relevant experience in utility industry, with track record of savings and strategic financial impact
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
BONUS CAPABILITIES:
- MBA or other Masters.
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience in the gas or electric utility industry
- Experience setting lean operational management systems
- Coaching certifications
