Responsibilities

The Senior Project Engineer position will be located in the Howmet Research Center and will assume responsibility as a project engineer/owner and supervisor within the prototype services groups, as well as serve as a technical liaison to the product introduction team for the Airfoils segment. This position will be expected to build strong relationships within the Research Center R&D and services groups as well as with casting plant engineers, customers and suppliers and is expected to thrive in a team environment with other engineering disciplines and technicians.

Position is located in Whitehall, Michigan near beautiful Lake Michigan and White Lake.

This position must possess technical leadership skills and will be involved in the development and implementation of complex and critical aerospace components in the most economical and profitable way to Howmet.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Coordinating NPI activities with casting plant engineers where Research Center prototype services will be utilized.
  • Supervising technicians and resources within assigned department as needed
  • Working as a technical liaison and service coordinator to the casting plants, but with focus on support activities to the Airfoils NPI Engineering team and IGT segment.
  • Executes Product Engineering responsibilities on occasional R&D or demonstrator projects, either individually or as part of a larger engineering team.
  • Planning and formulating new product introduction engineering programs within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Implementing and reviewing part, tooling and process design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements and related specifications.
  • Quoting new projects as well as maintaining knowledge of job costs.
  • Supporting activities related to technical development and casting plant engineering initiatives.
  • Preparing interim and completion project reports, as necessary.
  • Providing technical support for assigned new product introduction area of assignment.
  • Providing mentorship to other, typically less experienced engineers in the department as needed.
  • Interfacing with prototype services personnel regarding all processing requirements. Interacts with casting plant engineers and customers on technical issues.
  • Performing process quality investigations, as required.
  • Developing and implements process improvements.
  • Designing or specifying tools and fixtures pertinent to processing.
  • Generating capital requests as well as material requisitions to initiate procurement.
  • Translating customer requirements into usable work instructions and interfaces with customer on technical issues.
  • Developing and implementing plans to meet performance goals.
  • Reviewing purchase orders, specifications and blueprints for impact.
  • Assembling data packages for customer approval.
  • Continuously improving the performance of job-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications



  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience as an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and scientific methods for problem solving.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to effectively work/communicate as part of a project team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and activities.
  • Ability to manipulate and interrogate CAD models.
  • Able to work in a self-directed or team environment and have good organizations skills.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in the following disciplines preferred: Mechanical Engineer, Aerospace Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
  • Fluency with CAD software, preferably with Siemens NX.
  • 5+ years experience as an engineer in the casting industry.
  • Experience in new product development and start ups.
  • Project management experience.
  • Team leader or supervisory experience.
  • Proven problem solving skills using sound fundamentals as well as history of trials/execution of improvements.
  • Experience interacting with customers, manufacturing and quality for new part introductions.
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.
