Purpose

The ASC Sterile Processing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring that all sterilization processes meet required standards and regulations for cleanliness and safety. This role involves managing a team responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.

Responsibilities

Supervise Sterile Processing Operations

  • Oversee the cleaning, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and sterilization guidelines.
  • Monitor sterilization processes and perform quality assurance checks.

Manage Department Staff

  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate performance of sterile processing staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing education on sterile processing techniques.
  • Address personnel issues and foster a collaborative work environment.

Maintain Equipment and Inventory

  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of sterilization equipment.
  • Manage inventory of sterile supplies and reorder as necessary.
  • Coordinate with supply chain to ensure timely availability of necessary instruments.

Develop and Implement Policies

  • Create and update departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to national and local sterilization standards and regulations.
  • Conduct audits and maintain accurate records of sterilization processes.

Coordinate with Other Departments

  • Work closely with surgical and other hospital departments to optimize workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with operating room staff to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to address sterilization needs.

Marginal or Periodic Functions

  • Participate in Quality Improvement Initiatives
    • Analyze sterilization processes and suggest improvements.
    • Implement changes to enhance service quality.
  • Assist in Emergency Preparedness
    • Train staff to respond effectively to urgent sterilization needs or equipment failures.
    • Lead emergency preparedness efforts within the department.
  • Engage in Professional Development
    • Attend workshops and seminars to stay updated on the latest practices.
    • Pursue continuing education opportunities.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in sterile processing.
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in healthcare administration or a related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sterile processing, with supervisory experience.
Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications
