Job Summary:

The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), is seeking a talented, collaborative, and purpose-driven Internal Communications Manager that will leverage their skills and experience to increase transparency, engagement, trust, and clarity across the organization. Academic Affairs supports SMPH by overseeing all aspects of various health professions education programs: from admissions programs and curricular oversight to student services and multicultural initiatives across our statewide campus. It also is responsible for successfully meeting all national accreditation requirements as well as timely compliance with all health system, school, campus, and legislative policies and regulations. The OAA fosters a professional atmosphere to prepare health care providers and public health professionals at all stages of career development.

The Internal Communications Manager will be responsible for partnering with OAA leaders to design, implement, and evaluate communication strategies to inform and engage faculty, staff, and health professions learners regarding strategies, initiatives, policies, and change management. This individual will develop and lead the timely delivery of content from various communication channels and work cross-functionally with key internal stakeholders, including medical and health professions educators. The person in this role will help determine the timing, frequency, and optimal channel for delivery of content.

The individual in this role will:
1. Understand the organization and unit business strategies to develop and execute internal communications strategies, including communications campaigns.
2. Advise and assist senior leaders in Academic Affairs on effective internal communication.
3. Develop and edit content from the Academic Affairs leadership team and other internal stakeholders to ensure communication activities are effective, consistent, and engaging.
4. Lead continuous quality improvement of Academic Affairs - communication tools and processes; identify and monitor measures of success and recommend changes in approach to increase effectiveness.
5. Build relationships with key internal stakeholders and positively influence relationships through collaboration.
6. Respond and adapt to new information and circumstances as they arise.
7. Ensure that all communications are professional and meet timeline expectations, including responsiveness to emails.
8. Uphold school and organizational mission, vision and values and use them to inform decisions about communication activities.
9. Commit to ethical conduct in communications and public relations.

The Internal Communications Manager will join and support a dynamic administrative team while reporting to the Academic Affairs Administrative Director and Business Manager and maintaining a secondary reporting relationship with the Executive and Internal Communications Manager in the Office of Strategic Communications to ensure alignment with emerging communication practices and to foster professional growth. They will be expected to attend regular team meetings consistent with the position.

Responsibilities:
Develops and supervises the execution of communication programs and may supervise personnel and/or other resources in support of institutional or unit communication goals.

  • 15% Manages the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives
  • 25% Plans, writes, and edits content for various internal and external stakeholders
  • 10% Plans and directs unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets
  • 10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • 30% Develops, implements, and delivers communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences
  • 10% Prepares speeches, remarks, and presentations for senior organization decision-makers

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.


Qualifications:

Required:
- 3+ years of communication experience in higher education, health care, or comparable large and complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated experience in internal or technical communications or public relations.

Preferred:
- Experience serving as a trusted advisor to leadership, shaping executive messaging and executing communication priorities .
- Experience working in an academic medicine setting or health care setting.
- Proficiency in communications platforms.
- Strong analytical mindset; measures impact and refines strategy accordingly.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $80,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
