To strengthen our Gene Therapy Team, we are looking for a talented and motivated individual to fill the position of Gene Therapy Platform Lead - Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist. This person will independently lead the Gene Therapy Platform team at Element Genomics while maintaining key collaborative ties with Gene Therapy Vector Core within UCB's US R&D. This position will be based out of our offices in Durham, NC.
NOTE: We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas of any type for this role. This includes taking over sponsorship for an existing Visa.
Annual Salary:
Senior Scientist I - $104,800 to $137,600
Principal Scientist - $124,000 to $162,800
Major Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
* Work with key stakeholders in Preclinical and Clinical development teams to determine how to strengthen the Gene Therapy Platform at UCB and organize stakeholders and direct reports to develop and execute the strategy
* Continually assess prioritization and impact of work ongoing in the team, flexing and readjusting as needed while ensuring clear communication with key stakeholders
* Identify and communicate opportunities for data-driven optimization of differentiated Gene Therapeutics, based on high-throughput approaches where possible, both for current projects and in the future,
* Provide scientific insight and guidance in Gene Therapy projects in consultation with diverse internal and external collaborators (medicinal chemists, cell biologists, disease area exerts, antibody engineers, etc.), especially with the Element Genomics data science team
* Foster strong scientific process. Generate hypotheses and drive scientific impact on portfolio projects and Gene Therapy platform
Required Minimum Education, Experience and Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in Gene Therapy, drug discovery, genomics, or related field with a record of scientific achievement as evidenced by publications, presentations, or patents
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in Gene Therapy
* Demonstrated team and/or project leadership.
* Demonstrated experience in a matrixed drug discovery environment including working globally
Preferred Skills & Experience:
* Master's or PhD in relevant scientific discipline
* Experience in AAV biology.
* Advanced cell biology techniques
* Excellent communicator, with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines
* Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and engage in a multidisciplinary environment
* Experience in sequence biology and genomics
